surely s&m didn't win their qualifying group by playing like that. ithink they were pretty much relentlessly pounded into submission today, argentina were just that good.

This is why I don't think England will win the World Cup. We can beat the best on our day, but there are too many great teams competing for us to get so confident.

I didn't see the match or any highlights yet but from what I've heard Argentina are on top form and I think it will be very bad news if we're drawn against them in the not too distant future. Anyone who knows more about the way the tournament works - when could we possibly play them?

if England finish 2nd in their group and go on to win the next round then they can face Argentina in the quarter finals

^ which is why i said it's imperative we win the fucking group. it would be bad enough not getting into the semi-finals, but we could conceivably be on the end of a drubbing.
it's positive that we play a competitive sweden for our last game prior to the second round. they will provide stiffer opposition and should help speed england's momentum into the game against ecuador/germany (either of whom i still believe we can beat). we will certainly not beat argentina on our current form, especially if theirs holds true. |
