Their midfield was very submissive, Argentina's passing was in a sense like a role play; as if S&M were deliberately letting them inflict damage. Riquelme was very dominant, he was always in control...

surely s&m didn't win their qualifying group by playing like that. ithink they were pretty much relentlessly pounded into submission today, argentina were just that good.

This is why I don't think England will win the World Cup. We can beat the best on our day, but there are too many great teams competing for us to get so confident.

I didn't see the match or any highlights yet but from what I've heard Argentina are on top form and I think it will be very bad news if we're drawn against them in the not too distant future. Anyone who knows more about the way the tournament works - when could we possibly play them?

if England finish 2nd in their group and go on to win the next round then they can face Argentina in the quarter finals

^ which is why i said it's imperative we win the fucking group. it would be bad enough not getting into the semi-finals, but we could conceivably be on the end of a drubbing.

it's positive that we play a competitive sweden for our last game prior to the second round. they will provide stiffer opposition and should help speed england's momentum into the game against ecuador/germany (either of whom i still believe we can beat). we will certainly not beat argentina on our current form, especially if theirs holds true.

Good! Hopefully we'll face Germany next and beat them, then hopefully we'll play Argentina and wipe the floor with them.

I don't understand all this. Not long ago most people were saying England had as good a chance of winning the WC as anyone. Now after Argentina's latest game people are hoping we don't meet them for as long as possible.

If we want to win the bloody thing we have to meet the good teams, doesn't matter if it's the next round or what. I still think we have a good chance against any team, so bring 'em on!
