Krasnodar, Southern Russia
Some photos of a beautiful, never-shown before city in Southern Russia, Krasnodar(Ekaterinodar).
![]() Located some 200km north of the black sea coasts and some 200km eastern of ukrainian boarders, Krasnodar or how it was first called "Ekaterinodar", is one of the most beautiful cities in Russia. Being voted as the greenest one during soviet times(when it actually changed its name from Ekaterinodar(=Ekaterine's gift) to Krasnodar(Red gift, refering to the soviet army i guess). The city itself is sprawl with an out-dated transportation system and is the 3rd city in Russia in car %per person so you can imagine the traffic problems nowadays the city faces. Being a metro enthousiast i have to note there was a plan during the 70s for the city to have a subway which has not even started yet. The area of Kuban, where the city is located is mostly rural and have developed agriculture etc. It's fruits, wine and other products are known everywhere in Russia, since it's the main supplier of the nation. Also the region is popular for it's summer resorts since soviet times. The population of the city is estimated to be a bit less than a million but unofficially many say it's much more. In today's photo tour you'll see the main street of the city, the heart of it. - Krasnaya Street. For further information you can search the wikipedia entry for "krasnodar" and of course your beloved Google ![]() Hope you'll enjoy the photos .![]() The main concert hall of the city i guess. ![]() Some random stores and street life. [ ![]() The hotel Moskva, 2 stars only but still the place where most artists who come for concerts stay because of the location ![]() A random shot. ![]() The city Telecommunications building. ![]() Another store. ![]() A beautiful little park in front of the administration building. ![]() A random shot again. ![]() An old building, built probably in the beginning of the 20th century and the locals call it The Crocodile, don't really know why ![]() ![]() Beauty... ![]() A traffic scene. ![]() A monument for the heroes of the WWII died in the area. ![]() The building of the city administration. ![]() And another street scene. ![]() An old soviet building transformed into a modern cinema and a nightclub. ![]() A highrise hosting the central bank offices. ![]() A statue of Ekaterine the II if i'm not mistaken. ![]() A law-related building with Lenin in front. (It is said that krasnodar never lost it's soviet identity) ![]() A newly built church, in the same place where another one once was and was demolished by the soviets. ![]() A small yet interesting museum. That's all, hope you enjoyed as much as i did my spring-trip to Krasnodar. |

Thanks for the tour of Krasnodar, Russia
Very interesting building this one. Can't quite label the style; art nouveau or 'style moderne' as the Russians would say, eclecticism ?

As far as I know this lovely city is twinned with a city named Ferrara/Italy. There is also a boulevard named Krasnodar there.

Should be damn hot there now
(because even in Riga it is scorching hot now...)That "Crocodile" is Art Nouveau. It has got Neogothic details but the overall concept of the building is pure Art Nouveau - f.e. "vertikalism" - visual uniting of the windows of different floors vertically - this was not used before Art Nouveau.

Krasnodar is one of the best Russian cities, I will never understand why Russians didnīt densely populate cities like Krasnodar, Sochi, Astrakhan atc. which has nice climate in contrast with classic Russian cities. The cold Russian winters must be hard for their economy (just my opinion lol). For example KHL pays itīs hockey stars better than NHL, but NHL has best players, I donīt wonder that Europeans prefer US cities to the Russians, I really wouldnīt like to spend for example 15 years of my life in Moscow, but to Krasnodar I would move at a spot - Sochi is best city in Russia (just my opinion). Russians would never had a lot of money, because they spending it for heating
Nice pictures, thank you
