Thank you for that guided walk around Tomsk. Classical architecture and gardens + more. Pics are great in every way. Not the exact impression (stereotype) I had of a Siberian town. Seems like the places you know least are often the most interesting.

Do you have any famous denizens in your town, by any chance?

Most people think Siberia = bears and snow on the streets 365 days a year

I hope I'll visit Tomsk one day by train... We've seen so much in NG about Siberia

Sorry, denizen is a resident, a local of the city.

And I was implying perhaps an oil baron or 'oligarch' lives there.

There is no 'oil barons' or 'oligarchs' in Tomsk.
Tomsk is an education and scientific centre in Siberia. There is Seversk 15 km north of Tomsk, one of the closed cities in USSR.

It does look like a sophisticated town as many university towns are, Heidelberg, Uppsala, Oxford etc Very nice place, no doubt there are some cool drinking holes to keep the students happy.

Tomsk isn't like Oxford, Uppsala etc. At least, there are 500 thousand people live in Tomsk, much more than in the univesity towns. There are industries exists etc.

Pleasant city! Your wooden architecture is something very precious!
@Cherry - southern Siberia in summer is more hot than most of Europe.

Tomsk has many wooden houses, some of them are really unique, but I didn't found the famous wooden district, because was there for the first time.

Siberian your Posts are really nice.....you are my best poster in this forum.....Among all the countries I have visited (USA , India, China, France , Germany , Prague,Ukraine Baltics Italy and Russia ) Russia and Italy are my favourite....Russia has a perfect balance between Culture(Cities like St Petersburg) and glamour(cities like Moscow)....
I Russia you can be witness of Rising of a great Nation.... a great(perhaps greatest) cultural and economic power after a decade of Crisis.

But unfortunately people who have never been to Russia recently (after 2000) have a wrong and dark idea about Russia ..mainly due to all those antirussian propagandas by the Western media ......they speak about poverty ..but cities like Moscow St Petersburg Novsibrisk can compete with any European/north american city in terms of wealth and infrastructure ...and can defeat the most in terms of History and culture .

You are doing a great job of making people concious how beautiful Russia is
can you please post some pics of Vladimir Vladivostok and Varonish ..I havent been able to visit these three Vs ...i m planing to visit them in my next trip to St Petersburg

Russia lutse
pasiba balsoi (is my ruski correct? )

My next trip will be to St. Peter too.

Wow... Tomsk is surely gorgeous! It seems much cleaner than most larger Russian cities, and it's less touristic... very nice city.

This is the best part of Russia--- I have never seen such kind of beauty even in most of Eastern Europe... (Except Vilnius, Maribor or Ljubljana, perhaps)
