The elevated stop is in the road median, as for a metro. If none exists, the bus could possibly stop on the road side and disembark. You can google on BRTS and see this on buses in Colombia, Brazil etc from where this idea originated.

Heritage design for BRTS bus-stands in wall city Ahmedabad proposed
Bird feeding towers(Chabutaro), and houses made from material like wood and stones. This is the identity of the wall city of Ahmedabad. And you may soon witness reflection of these heritage elements in construction of the new BRTS bus-stands, coming up in the wall city area. Speaking at the international symposium on heritage management at Ahmedabad University today, Shri Sunil Shah, Chairman of Revenue committee, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) announced that the design of new BRTS bus-stands in wall city area will reflect the heritage value of wall city area in some way. He said the wall city bus-stops will be different than the existing BRTS bus-stops in western Ahmedabad and other parts of the city. He added that professor Shivanand Swamy of CEPT is working on this. On the sideline of the conference, replying to DeshGujarat’s query, professor Swamy said that two different designs have been submitted to the AMC for approval. It is to see that what comes out. He said, the idea is to give stone effect on exterior side and usage of wooden elements on interior side. Also, erection of Chabutaras is proposed, Shri Swamy said. The new design will raise the construction cost of the bus-stands. More than 10 bus-stands are to be constructed for wall-city area phase of the BRTS project. |

BRTS CRUISES INTO EXPANSION TRACK
Urban Development Dept Mulls Taking The Network To GIFT City LINK ![]() Ahmedabad: With the third phase completed in the next two and half years, BRTS in Ahmedabad will span 129-kilometre in the city — the largest BRTS network in the country. Tenders pertaining to three of the nine stretches planned for the third phase are being brought out shortly. The BRTS project once completed in the next three years will provide a major impetus to upcoming projects like GIFT city, industrial hubs like Sanand and the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor (DMIC) stretch. The first part of the third phase will include stretches of Sola-Science city, Juhapura APMC-Shivaranjini, Jashodanagar-Hathijan and government litho press-Prem darwaza. The other stretches include routes from Narol to Aslali ring road, Khokhara-New Cloth Market, Khokhra-Rakhial-Dafnala-Acher, New C G Road- Visat Junction-Vishwakarma college and Akhbarnagar-Gota. The 37-km stretch of BRTS proposed for the third phase will also see Thaltej connected to the BRTS network at Helmet crossroads. There are at least four other stretches proposed for the BRTS that will connect the S P ring road. “These stretches are under discussion stage and their feasibility are being checked,” says a senior official of the Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL). As much as Rs 150 crore has been allotted in current year budget for the BRTS. The BRTS network will connect major institutional, educational, public transport hubs and industrial areas in the city. “Apart from these major residential and commercial areas will also be part of the BRTs network,” adds the AJL official. “The 129 km stretch will cover essential part of city and will help commuters travel from their homes to surrounding growth centres. GIFT, Sanand and DMIC are emerging growth centres for Ahmedabad city,” adds the AJL official. ISSUES THAT ARE BEING DEBATED # Should BRTS and Metrorail compete for passengers along a certain length on Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar highway # Whether people who work at GIFT city should have a choice of an alternative and cheap transport like the BRTS # The new bridge across Sabarmati river near PDPU university will require a nod from Union ministry of forests and environment # Should a new special purpose vehicle (SPV) be formed for Chandkheda-GIFT city BRTS project |

BRTS to GIFT City
![]() A debate over improving connectivity to Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) city has been vexing the state government for long. With nearly 10 floors of 22 of the towers ready at GIFT SEZ site, the urban development department is mulling over the feasibility of taking a BRTS up to the heart of the project. The discussion is on for the last one month in the state urban development department. The new transport may also require a new bridge to be constructed across the Sabarmati river between Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and GIFT city. Since metro-rail is taking its own sweet time and that it will be quite a while before the rail completes its two phases, it seemed prudent that the BRTS be a sure shot transport for the finance city. The plan which was discussed amongst closed circles in the top bureaucracy. “There are critical issues to be dealt with before the idea is approved. This plan involves running BRTS and Metrorail parallel to each other for nearly 11 kilometers which means competing for passengers. The second issue being whether GIFT should have a choice for alternative transport like the BRTS, which will be cheaper than a metro rail. The BRTS will have a greater reach into the talent pool that stays in Ahmedabad. Thirdly investors who are interested to come to GIFT will consider accessibility to the place as its not only the software professionals who will work there, but a gamut of workforce that will involve class II, class III,” says a senior official in the urban development department. Other issues that would be dealt with will be environment clearance for the PDPU bridge towards GIFT city. “The BRTS can come up at one-third the cost of a metro rail and can be a faster project to implement. Besides by the time phase III of the Ahmedabad BRTS comes up in the next two years, almost every corner of Ahmedabad will be linked. This will be quite helpful for GIFT city, “adds the official. The urban development department may have to float a special purpose vehicle (SPV) on the lines of the Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) to overlook the construction of the BRTS network which will be undertaken from Chandkheda towards Koba circle, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar highway and then turn right towards Gift city via the PDPU and Gujarat National Law Univesity (GNLU) road. The new route if approved will also see BRTS cross a new bridge to a reach GIFT. |

I personally don't feel that BRTS should be used to connect two cities. Because this will create a larger system and at some point in future may be in 2020 BRTS will create a traffic problems in their own lanes only and thus increasing travel times. One can see today in BRTS corridor between Shivranjni and Chandranagar. Now this case is rare but increasing system length will inject more buses and passengers but the lanes will remain same. So do you guys believe that in 2020 also BRTS will be effective in our city? Though Metro is going at slow pace and I think so GIFT will also be on limelight around 2015 after completion of its first phase in 2014 and we can hope metro by 2015 in Ahmedabad. |

BRTS for GIFT should be a temporary solution. The two towers will have people by the end of this year, so a public transport is needed as fast as possible.
Also there should be a special bus service from 4-5 important locations in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to GIFT until BRTS comes. The final plan should be a metro link to the city. However it must be ensured that BRTS is connected to all those metro routes that go to GIFT city. At the end, all of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar must be directly or indirectly connected to GIFT. Also this BRTS route to GIFT will ensure that a bridge will be built from PDPU to GIFT. Thus even private commuters will benefit from this. I hope they build a 8 lane bridge and the design should be such that it corresponds to the scale of GIFT. Although this proposed bridge more or less lies over the proposed location of Signature bridge (at the southern end of GIFT). |

If they build the stretch from Shivranjani to APMC, it shall mean they are trying to connect the Thaltej - Kalupur Metro line with Vasna - Gandhinagar metro line.
+ This BRTS shall pass right below my home on 132 ft Ring road on Shyamal Cross Roads... SWEET !!!!!

I am glad they are going to demolish the Ellisbridge police station. The elevated corridor will curve across Ashram Road and pass over the police station and finally slope downwards towards the Ellis bridge.
Here's how it will look:

I dont know if it has been posted before, I just stumbled upon it.
Seamless, multi-mode travel in Ahmedabad LINK ![]() By 2025, you could shoot off an SMS to a toll-free number to reach a destination in Ahmedabad at a particular time. The system would immediately give you a mix of modes — BRTS, AMTS, metro rail and sub-urban rail —all networked together, by then. You could book your seats with your prepaid travel card in one go. You could just swipe your travel card at a BRTS stop at Navrangpura, alight at the modal transfer station on SG Highway for a direct metro rail to the proposed Federa international airport.Welcome to the world of integrated multi-modal, non-stop, seamless, transport system where all these modes of transport will run in tandem. Experts say this integrated transport system is the future of traffic system in this rapidly growing megacity. ![]() Red - BRTS Corridors Green - Suburban Railway Lines Blue - Metro Corridors Figures available with the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) say the city’s population is expected to touch 84.5 lakh by 2025, with transportation required for 26.4 lakh! “This integrated transport system is best suited for a compact city like Ahmedabad. No single mode of transport can function in isolation. So, there was a need to weave various modes of transport,” says Shivanand Swamy, associate director, CEPT which played a big role in designing the system. While BRTS will become the backbone of the network, a suburban rail transit system will connect the city to industrial suburbs like Kalol, Naroda and Mehmedabad, which will become important nodes for the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Besides this, both BRTS and metro rail would provide direct access to GIFT city, the finance hub on the outskirts of Gandhinagar which is being touted as the next engine of growth for Ahmedabad.Singapore, which is interested in the Rs 7,432 crore metro rail, plans to link Dholera-Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar. While the twin bus system, the BRTS and AMTS, would provide unhindered access to all the central business districts like Ashram Road, CG Road, SG Highway and DMIC. Besides, there would be links to residential and educational hubs of the city and its suburbs. Suburban rail corridor: A regional rail corridor would come up on additional space available along the existing rail line. Initially, plans for a Barejadi-Kalupur-Kalol line and direct service between Kalupur and Naroda were proposed. The third corridor which is being discussed is the airport link from the Kalupur-Naroda line, while a rail line is proposed for Vasna-Sabarmati route, and another for Sarkhej-Gandhinagar route via NH-8. ![]() Metro corridor :The present project report for metro rail proposes a total area route of 99.65 km at this stage, that would connect state capital Gandhinagar and important destinations in Ahmedabad. The first phase takes up 54.75 km.However, the new plan for which the Singapore Chambers for Commerce and Industry is interested in is the Gandhinagar-Dholera via Ahmedabad route, with a direct connectivity to Fedara international airport that would come up 20 km from Dholera. The combined air passenger traffic would increase to 20,350 at Fedara and the existing Sardar Patel international airport. Apart from four metro lines proposed are a metro corridor along the Sabarmati riverfront, Vasna-Sabarmati route along 132-feet ring road while a proposed extension to GIFT city is under active consideration. The metro rail would connect a logistic and manufacturing hub that would form part of the DMIC corridor, townships that would come up in the vicinity and GIFT city. ![]() BRTS corridor :As per existing plans the BRTS network would comprise a 120.5-km network after three phases of the plan come up. The Ahmedabad BRTS corridor has been designed on Colombian economic model. By providing additional floor space index along BRTS corridor, the land-use pattern plan along the corridor would encourage developers to come up with commercial spaces and residential zones that will fuel BRTS system by providing passengers. This would allow developers to come up with multi-storied complexes. The existing BRTS network passes through two critical central business districts like SG road, Ashram road, while busy commercial areas in the intermediary circle of the city would provide it with additional passengers. The third phase of BRTS project would connect GIFT city to Gandhinagar and Bopal, while Gujarat University would be connected in phase 2 of the BRTS plan. |

BRTS is now ready for these buses from Volvo which can accommodate 110 passengers.
![]() http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...?homepage=true The longest Volvo bus, stretching 14.5 metres, was inducted into the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on a trial basis here Saturday. The bus, which can accommodate 110 people at a go, will run between Banashankari to ITPB, Kempegowda bus station to Kadugodi, Majestic to Attibele, Kempegowda bus station to Bannerghatta National Park, and Silk Board to Hebbal on different days. Transport Minister R. Ashok, who flagged off the bus, said: “We have been striving to promote mass transport and this new bus is an initiative in that direction.” Mr. Ashok said this bus model bus would reduce diesel consumption, traffic jams and pollution. He also spoke about plans to introduce intra-city bus services on the lines of BMTC in smaller towns like Mangalore, Shimoga, Mandya and Kolar, as well as in north Karnataka districts by the end of the month. BMTC Chief Mechanical Engineer (Production, Transport and Planning) C.G. Anand said: “If the response of the public is good and the vehicle performs well, we will go ahead and purchase the bus.” |

2 sections are remaining : one above the railway line and the other (the most important) over the Ashram Road... Overall, I would say around 80-85% done...

BRTS spares trees on phase II routes in Ahmedabad
Whenever there is talk of road construction and road widening, one thinks of trees being cut and green patches being levelled by concrete. But the construction work undertaken by the Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) for Phase II of BRTS seems to be an exception. The AJL has taken care to protect the trees that stand on the new BRTS routes being built.... More ![]()
