Alright, you can fly to 112 different countries.

How many of those countries have their airlines flying to Frankfurt? Then you have your answer to the thread.

It asks for "airlines representing countries of the world", not "flights to however many different countries"

I wish someone could make an excel sheet with all foreign carriers operating into the important hubs in Europe (LON, CDG, FRA, AMS, MAD, FCO, CPH etc.).

bay_area,
That list shows all airlines from all countries, which is not what this thread is about.

Here's a list for LAX (which has way less foreign airlines per country than London, Copenhagen and Madrid):

Australia (Qantas)
Brazil (VARIG)
Canada (Air Canada)
Chile (LAN)
China (Air China)
Colombia (Avianca)
Costa Rica (LACSA Airlines)
El Salvador (TACA International Airlines)
Fiji (Air Pacific)
France (Air France)
Germany (Lufthansa)
Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific)
India (Air India)
Ireland (Aer Lingus)
Israel (El Al)
Jamaica (Air Jamaica)
Japan (All Nippon Airways)
Malaysia (Malaysia Airline System)
Mexico (Aeromexico)
Netherlands (KLM)
New Zealand (Air New Zealand)
Panama (COPA Airlines)
Peru (LAN)
Philippines (Philippine Airlines)
Russia (Aeroflot)
Singapore (Singapore Airlines)
South Korea (Asiana)
Switzerland (Swiss)
Tahiti (Air Tahiti Nui)
Taiwan (EVA Air)
Thailand (THAI)
United Kingdom (British Airways)

Los Angeles has 32 airlines from different countries, compared with 83 for London, 46 for Copenhagen and 46 for Madrid (Stockholm also has 35-40 different airlines from unique countries).
It would be interesting to see if any US airport is even close to the big ones in Europe.

I would really like to see a list for FRA (which I imagine is the biggest airport in this sense) and Paris...

Here's the list for the world's largest airport. Impressive!
EDIT: Atlanta.

Canada (Air Canada)
Brazil (Trans Brazil)
Ecuador (Panagra)
France (Air France)
Germany (Lufthansa)
Guatemala (Aviateca)
Jamaica (Air Jamaica)
Mexico (Aeroexo)
Netherlands (KLM)
South Africa (South African Airways)
South Korea (Korean Airlines)
United Kingdom (British Airways)

That's 12 foreign carriers from unique countries...

I'm pretty sure that Delta does not fly to JNB but rather codeshares with Air France via Paris and possibly with SAA too?

Oh I see.

On the other hand, there are only 2 foreign countries within 1,000 miles of Los Angeles. Trying to make this comparison will always put the US Cities at a disadvantage-but I do see your point.

You can add Nigeria back on the list because Virgin Nigeria fly there - or do they just use Gatwick?
