Shanghai World Financial Centre

Source: Qazaq

Link to Shanghai World Financial Center (Part 5) (Part 4) (Part 3) (Part 2) (Part 1)

Height: 492m
Floors: 101
Year (start): 1997
Year (end): 2008
GFA: 377,300 mē
Elevators: 31
Escalators: 33
Costs at completion: $850,000,000
Location: Pudong, Shanghai, China

Two architect firms is involved in the project, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd. The tower contains commercial offices, a shopping centre, a museum and a 6-star hotel. The foundation stone was laid on August 27, 1997, but a fund shortage on the Japanese side caused by Asian financial crisis halted the project, and nothing had since been done to the projected structure. Construction finally resumed on February 13th, 2003. The design of the opening near the top of the tower has changed in mid-October, 2005; from a circular to a rectangular opening. Architect and developer claim that it is cheaper and easier to implement the new design.

Good luck in keeping track of projects in Beijing and Shanghai. It's impossible.

For instance.. there was no mention of these projects on these forums at all:

Shanghai

Donghai Plaza (200m+)

Park Place (50 floors ~200m)

Golden Magnolia (200m)

Wheelock Square (298m)

Lujiazui, plot B3-5 (265m)

Lujiazui, Merryland building (200m+)

Jasper Tower (300m+)

CMBC (200m+)

Changfeng Commercial (238m)

Some unknown plot (200m+)

Quite honestly, 200m buildings are infill for Shanghai. The list would be too long if I posted all buildings that are under construction... let alone "proposals".

guys, great effort, but please don't put more than two pictures (one rendering/one construction maybe) per project/tower.

Beijing is not a city for skyscrapers,If you want,I recommand some other Chinese cities such as ShenZhen or GuangZhou, currently they have much more projected skycrapers than in Beijing.

I was wondering about it too... Does Beijing have that many constructions/plans going on? Since Beijing is essentially a historic city with many cultural sites (some are very large in scale), does the city government permit many skyscrapers to be built?

Beijing government had put some quantitive restrictions on 200m+ skyscrapers in order to maintain it's historical style looking.
