Stay positive ...

- As far as we know no other plans have been submitted for the site

- The old Merc garage is falling to bits quickly so someone will want it

- It is shown in the above applications

Last I heard, from the Telegraph, the developers were delaying things till they had planning permission for phase 2 of the scheme, across the road from it. Admittedly that was getting on for a year ago, so what's been happening with PP for phase 2, I've no idea.

Phase 2? Where exactly is that supposed to go, and is there a planning link?

I think phase two has been approved. Atleast I remember seeing an application next to this, with the tower shown in the background.

Phase 2, apparently, would involve 188 one/two bedroom apartments, in the Milton Street/Headford Street area (no idea where that is). At ground level would (possibly) be offices, a car showroom, hotel, cafe/bar. The architects are Axis though I don't have a clue who the developers are.

I'm suprised that they think that they can sell so many apartments in this location, I actually thought that the scheme had hit viability problems and fallen through. Getting contractors in to half demolish a showroom then abandon it is pretty shabby. The site is surrounded by industrial units, very busy dual carriageways and an awful council estate. They're certainly ambitous if they can pull it off.

I think that's the whole point of phase 2. It'd involve demolishing a lot of the grubby buildings around Hanover House, thus making it a more attractive to buyers/residents.

Er, isn't that the other development on page 1 of this thread?

It's not that bad a location. There are plenty of residences on the ring road, and it's no worse than Velocity Tower, surely!

I seem to remember a dublin based company called Bearwise.

Diggers are on site and demolision of the current building has restarted as of this morning. Is this starting? Or are they just tidying up the site?

Went past yesterday and saw the building, looked a right mess.

Hope construction is starting! Could be possible, now that Velocity Tower and Citygate are going up, might have given them a kick up the arse.

I agree, there are some ugly old tower blocks opposite, but I don't think there is much trouble.
About 15 years ago there were massive problems with prostitutes and drugs, but that had gone away when the classic rock bar was there. I was in there regularly and I saw no problems.

I have a mate who lives further up the road in a house and I have been in to see him a few times and it is quite nice down there.

Aye yeah its not too bad down there. I walk past twice a day, sometimes quite late at night and there never seems to be any trouble. I quite like the tower blocks down there. The yellow panels are pretty groovy, looks nice and bright on a sunny day. Does anyone know whats happening on the site of the classic rock bar? I was quite sad to see it go as i'd only just discovered it! Doh! Theres a sign up saying that the site has been sold, but its been up a while

Its on sale with outline planning permission for a scheme similar to the ones shown on the hoarding on site I think. Expect wards brewery-esque flats within a few years. That stretch of eccy road between the ring road and pomona should pick up a bit with the completetion of Wards brewery phase 2.

Are there really diggers on site again?

I had really given up on this ever being built. I don't think there would be any reason for them to 'tidy up' the site if they'd given up on it, as it would just be extra cost to the developers.

I do hope this gets built, its the best design of building in Sheffield currently on the cards. I just hope they don't chicken out like the student flats near Park Square did...

I went down to have a look this evening, and indeed there is a jcb type vehicle with a bucket which appers to have been demolishing the remains today.
Unfortunately the thick fence is right in the way which prevents a good picture but here they are anyway..

This one is up the side

This one is at the front on Hanover Way.
