Great to hear Hannover House may be starting!

The Hannover flats are OK. Walk though th area, and there's some lower-rise blocks painted in red/blue/green etc. It's quite funky. And there's a nice kid's play area too.

You didn't believe me! Tsk.

I was a busy boy yesterday tea time, here is a shot of the site taken from the centre reservation of hanover way.
21st April 2007 6.06pm

if you compare it to my last one, a couple of days ago, you can see that the Lancaster Europa building is not much longer for this world

Well, with V-tower going up, maybe the economic climate has got better and the developers feel it's worthwhile getting their arses into gear!

Or maybe they have found some more irish investors who want to buy the whole job lot.

Seriously though, I can't help thinking that some of these developments are starting too late. With interests rates rising, mortgages costing more and inflation starting to show signs that the Bank Of England are no longer in control, I'm worried that property prices might start declining making these sorts of developments less likely.

Barry,
I agree with you about the caution about continuing the fevered pace of building construction in the city.
I don't agree with you over the economic climate. Those are just headlines, in the next phase the bank of England will keep a very tight lid on things, and meanwhile as the cheaper fuel comes on stream, we will have another spell of cheap motgage, low interest and low inflation.

Walked past the Hanover House site this morning, it is great to actually see some demolishion work in progress, also noticed some brand new Saxton Mee signs up on the fences.

I'm hoping the design for the Hanover redevelopment is still for a glass covered tower like on the render below.

Don't worry.

I read a trade publication yesterday that said that Sheffield's demand for city centre apartments is far outstripping the demand.

Sheffield WILL keep rising!

Not sure how that works. :-P

But yeah, i've reead it in a couple of Knight Frank documents, that the demand is outstripping the supply. I've also read that something like ovver 40% of the appartments in the city centre are owner occupied, which might not seem like much, but compared with those in Leedds, it's quite a few.

I do hope they keep the glass tower design too. Would be great if they kept the design, but increased the height.

If you look on Rightmove for apartments in the city centre, there aren't that many available at any one point! It quite surprised me.

Well that is interesting because it indicates that either..

1 ) the population of the city is set to rise by an enormous amount over a small space of time

2 ) many students will leave their traditional student houses to live in new apartments, which could free up big houses for first time house buyers

3 ) the trade is massaging the figures to encourage more construction. Leading to a short/medium term boom in the construction sector

I know this doesn't neccessarily prove your theory, but many of my fellow student friends and I would consider city centre living within the next couple of years. But its still a case of getting on the property ladder cos city centre apartments aren't cheap.
