That looks good! Who is the manufacturer? Maybe some technical data?

Maybe because HKMTR trains are 30 years old.

Tianjin Subway Scheduled To Re-Open March 28th

At least that's what I've been told. Tianjin's subway system, which is actually the 2nd oldest in China after Beijing's, is set to reopen March 28th after being shut down since late 2001 for remodeling and a lengthening of the tracks. They've basically just completely rebuilt the whole thing along that stretch. There isn't much at all of the original line still there. Here's an article discussing it as well as some photos of what the new subway will look like.

Job well done. Looks great.

Side note, what's the best way to learn how to read, write and speak Mandarin Chinese? I have a feeling it would take a monumental effort to master it.

Well, I'm no real expert myself, but there are some really good free resources on the net if you're willing to look for it. A good little tool is called rikai.com, which is a translation tool which keeps the original characters and gives you the pronounciation of the word as well as several possibilities for meanings.

Another good resource is this:
http://eastasia.hawaii.edu/yao/icusers/

It's the webpage for Integrated Chinese, a popular Chinese textbook series. They have pretty much the whole book series online plus more: pronounciation guides, activities, voice recordings, and character stroke animations to help you learn.

How many lines are there now, and before? So all the stations were remodeled?

Right now there is only the #1 line, and the Binhai line, which is an elevated "light" rail system travelling from Tianjin City to it's largest suburb and port, Tanggu, and TEDA, the Tianjin Economic Development Zone, near the port. There's plans to connect them, but I don't know if that will happen at reopening. Tianjin is planning on building quite a few more in the coming years. I believe the next line is scheduled to intersect the #1 line and head out towards the airport, (I wish it could have been there when I was teaching out there ). Check Urban Rail's page on Tianjin for more info:
