Here are some new photos from Angola´s provinces (they are mainly all taken in 2003 and 2004)...but what surprises me is that a lot remains intact or has been restored...more investment is also trickling inn, I have heard and read....well there are still no glitzy high-rises but the need and emphasis is and should be on other things now.
I start with Lubango
Those who have been to Portugal (Lisbon) know these platform from where you can have an overview over the city...

Well, this cine-theater has certainly seen brighter days but the photos dates back from 2003, it is probably has changed.
It looks like both Angola and Mozambique inherited from Portugal very good infrastructures. Buildings are nicely designed, parks and streets that are wide and orderly are well taken cared of by the present governments.
In comparison, Congo has to fix their infrastructures. Some of their cars and buses have already reached their lives and need to be retired.
This is just part of the project as Luanda Plaza consists of 4 main buildings (apartment, office, and a Hotel managed by Hilton). It will be built by a Portuguese-Angola construction company at a cost of 120 million dollars.
Part of the project
Projecto de habitação, escritórios, comércio e Hotel, composto por:
* 2 Edifícios de Habitação de luxo – com 70 fogos
2 Edifícios de Escritórios
* Área Comercial
* Estacionamentos – 5 caves
* Hotel de 5 Estrelas com 230 quatros.
* Gestão: Será entregue à cadeia hoteleira Hilton Hotels.
* Área de Construção: 87.000 m2.
* Localização: Rua Rei Katyavala, Luanda
Well, my last posting is again misplaced in this thread because it is in Luanda and not its provinces. I could just slap myself for being so absent-minded:bash:
Lochinvar,... me, too.... although great challenages still exist...but I think Angola´s take-off will by far exceed that of Mozambique because Angola has a lot of more money and investors flocking to that country than it is the case for Mozambique...I am not well informed on Mozambique, so correct me if you know better.
I had no idea other Angola cities looked so intact. I figure that because of the war only Luanda had descent infrastructure and that the rest of the country was shit. This is an Eye opener.
Naijalove, yes Angola truly has very nice Black women (I have seen it myself)...and there are many many nice mulatta girls (black and white), too!
You are to blame, investment trickles down to the provinces (slowly) and as you can see a lot of the beautiful architecture is being restored. One thing I like about lusophone countries is that the Portuguese build like crazy (but maybe because the colonial period was very long and intense ,500 years, and due to the massive Portuguese community in Angola), in Angola you have a lot of very well planned cities. Restoration work is going on there (I have been told). ...however, you have also cities like Huambo (former "Nova Lisboa"/"New Lisbon") which have regrettably been heavily damaged. War raged wildly around that area....but investment and public spending is also trickling down to Huambo.
All of the following photos show the city of Lobito

these are some more landscape pics from the region Huila:
Although I only want to show modern day (post-war) photos of Angola´s provinces I just found these three maginficient pics showing Lobito before the damned fucking war....30 lost years ....I could just burst:bash: :bash: :bash:
Hey guys,
I am an Angolan born in Luanda and currently livin in Boston, MA...I have been an avid follower of any thread pertaining to Angola for the past month and have now decided to join this forum. I was in Angola this summer, as well as the summer of 2005, and thus have some photos to share. I will go back to Angola again in December, and post more photos while I am there.
Here are some photos of Lubango, Serra da Leba (on the drive from Lubango to Namibe, the best road in Angola), Namibe, and Mussulo Island, which is off the coast Luanda. These photos were taken in 2005.

I am very happy that another Angolan has joined, too! :banana: ...so our African community is grwong steadily....Beautiful pics! Thanks for puttig them here and sharing them with us....
Excellent thread guys! I have always been curious on Angola and this thread has fascinated me. Great country and beautiful people, I hope that reconstruction is done as quick as possible for the benefit of the angolan people. Something that also makes me glad is that this country is portuguese-speaking which immediatly means similarities between you guys and us in south america.
I hate to sound mean or ruin the comment about your great country but are there plans to change the flag? I think there could be something more significant to represent the people than a machete.
he who forgets the past will not see the future. they thought of changing it but it seems they just could'ant walk away fom the history of the struggle. here was the intended new one. i like the mattache and tractor cog better. it's unique like angola.
