The Wires

I like wires in cities and I've done many pictures of them. In Tartu and in Tallinn, in Elva and in Keila in Estonia. This is urbanism. Music from The Future Sound Of London fits well in the middle of wires and urban landscapes. Because, FSOL is sometimes urban soundscape!

The wires form like another dimension in the city. The following pictures are done in a nice date 04.05.06 in Tartu. Yea, both ambient and techno fit well in this area...

Ten days later in Tallinn railway station...

... and in Keila railway station.

Some pictures in Väike-Õismäe 22.04.06, perhaps having been in some of my threads already.

I hope nobody thinks that this is an ironic thread from me to show uglier part of cities. This is the better part for me :-)

I visited Tartu in 13.07.2007 and I had a little time to spend so I went straight to my old favourite place, which was formerly "Lõuna Elektrivõrgud" or smth. like that ("Southern Electric Networks" perhaps in English). This place is really awsome... [I think Tallinn should have something larger than that but I don't know where!]

I think I'll add here some older pics from that place. First some pics from 13.04.2002 (cloudy day) and then from 08.06.2003 and 08.05.2003.

Powerlines can be do much for a picture, also as the main object as you show. Don't know if you wanted for others to post pictures too, but here iI am tossing out one of mine from '04:

My favorite thing with powerlines are the visualy dramatic effects they make in every environment, both in pictures and reality.

cool thread... i think we have a few "powerline streets" here that leaves the city to provide villages, but you don't see powerlines in the cities or villages, since they are all dug down, so i can't say that i find wires very futuristic, but they can be cool non the less...

a relative of mine who used to work for telia has porcelain cup from the old wiering as candle sticks, (holders?) quite retro

Wires look kinda funky and cool, especially on these pictures.

Ja echo, minu teada peaks Eesti suurim alajaam olema Püssis, juhul kui sind huvitab .

damn echo, you rock. i love different urbanistic elements too. also, i like elements inside buildings, for examples, elevators (lifts) i photograph them and i have made some videos of older elevators, because i like their style, noises what they make and so on
feaky, isn't it?

some examples from estonia:
from 70's:

from nowadays:

hehe x)

about elevators - the old ones in our national library blew me away, they were so purely old-school, and right next to modern elevators i was planning to take a photo-tour in the building, but i'm afraid i'm too late now - the building's closed for renovations... they'll probably replace the old elevators as well...

i love it when the stairways rotate around the open elevator shaft - so that all the mechanisms are shown, there's only a wire mesh between me and all the machinery. i've seen shafts like that in older soviet-time buildings... aah, i love them!

doesn't this thread make you think? - about the value of even the most disgustingly ugly things that make our environment. - in some amounts everything deserves to be preserved for future generations. we never know what might interest future urban historians, or what people will consider beautiful or interesting...
