Construction of Mabolo flyover begins this year

A third flyover will be built in Cebu City this year, barring any hitches in government?s plans and funding.

This will be at the junction of F. Cabahug St. and Juan Luna St. (the old San Jose de la Montaña) connecting to the Ayala access road, according to its proponent, Rep. Raul del Mar.

Del Mar said the third of his proposed network of six flyovers will cost about the same as the approved budget for the second flyover, which he pegged at a little over P70 million.

An initial budget for the facility was approved, and the National Government?s 2006 annual budget will cover the rest of it. Del Mar hopes the Department of Public Works and Highways will start the bidding early this year.

The network of flyovers will spare Cebuanos from the traffic gridlocks now suffered daily by Metro Manila residents, del Mar said.

Widening roads and creating more access roads are solutions that have already been milked dry, he added.

The first of the network was built at Juan Luna and Archbishop Reyes Aves. in 2001. The second was completed in 2003, at the Escario St. and Archbishop Ave. intersection.

The fourth and fifth flyovers will be located at Archbishop Ave. and Escario St. and M.J. Cuenco Ave. (Mabolo corner) and Juan Luna Ave., respectively. (GAC)

Cebu City as of the moment has only 2 flyovers
Mandaue City has already 2 and Talisay City has 1...
Cebu City really has very poor road infras...

At least we have 4 more flyovers to be constructed in Cebu City.
The first flyover in Lapu-lapu City, too, will be constructed.
New access roads in Lapu-lapu City, connecting to the Airport Road will be constructed too!

An applause to Cebu's Infra Boom!

im not really fond of flyovers, it ruins the view, and i hate the "manila-look" of flyovers crisscrossing an intersection, parang ewan. but if theres no other way, ok na lang din, basta lagyan ng greens yung ilalim like what they did in escario and under the fernan bridge on the l.a.pupu side, may mga plants.

pero mas maganda sana kung tunnel na lang, wahahaha!

I agree with you, pag may flyover, expect na mas marumi ang paligid pero Cebu badly needs those flyovers now (tunnel sana mas maganda, clean and safe)...
May napansin rin ako, flyovers here in Cebu are like scraps.. I mean flyovers in Manila and Davao are well made, smooth but here it's so bumpy and rough, I dunno why

Flyovers just have a nice top view.
With fairness and equality to our flyovers, they're fine since I compared it to Manila's when I went there last summer.

The first flyover in Lapu-lapu will be built along Maximo Patalinjug Avenue (the street directly straight the Old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge). This is to lessen the traffic in Basak. (

I dunno with Manila's flyovers now coz the last time I went there last 1995, I find their flyovers better than here sa Cebu...

The flyover's construction is a headache for motorists and passengers but once it is finished, you could feel the ease.

Then it will be a nightmare for workers in MEPZ II who lived in mainland Cebu.

Right now, I think Cebu city should start building its mass transit instead in anticipation of more developments and population increase. I hope they don't follow Metro Manila's mistake. Yes, the overpasses and flyovers are ugly if they are not planned right. Look how they murdered EDSA with those giant concrete structures that seems to spiral out of nowhere.

Mactan Airport to ML Quezon Ave. intersection in Lapu-Lapu City - 4 lanes
from Quezon Ave intersection to 2nd Mactan Bridge - 6 lanes
2nd Mactan Bridge has 4 lanes then 8 lanes approaching U.N. Avenue in Mandaue City. The city proper has 4-6 lanes, leading to Cebu North Reclamation road which has 8-10 lanes. Then at least 6-lane road from reclamation area going to Mabolo and Cebu Business Park, Cebu City.

I can't rememeber how wide the roads are in Downtown Cebu.

Downtown Cebu normally has 4 lane roads...
From downtown Cebu to Pardo passing along N Bacalso ave, 6 lanes... from Pardo down to the intersection of a higway from SRP, 4 lanes... then 4 to 6 lanes upto the Municipality of Minglanilla, Municipality of Naga and probably upto Municipality of Carcar.

From 8 - 10 lane highway in North Reclamation area upto plaza independencia leading to the tunnel, it's 6 lanes. The 1 kilometer tunnel will have 4 lanes then out to the SRP coastal bridge which has 4 lanes then to South Road properties which has 6 lanes upto the boundary of SRP in Talisay City. From SRP Talisay City to the National road going to Southern Cebu, 4 - 6 lanes.
