thanks rusty&slerz.
so cebu has a all 4 - 8 lane highway leading to the bridge. what about on the mactan island side to the airport ?

4-lane approach to the Airport

Towards the exit in M.L. Quezon Highway.. A service ramp similar to the one in the second bridge should be built at the exit of this airport road so as to ensure smooth traffic and so that motorists will not have to stop and negotiate for road right of way upon merging with M.L. Quezon Highway.

very nice arnoldsa! thank you, looks very impressive. so now i know the highway from center cebu to mactan airport seems to be a world class 4 to 8 lane expressway, better than anything manila has to offer.

Thanks rusty18 and richard_fischer.

Yup richard it's definitely a road network at par with international standards. I hope those responsible for it can maintain it and probably do some improvements on some parts of it especially at the Mandaue City reclamation area. The Mandaue City reclamation area has an 8 (or 10) lane highway but sadly some parts of it are full of potholes and are so dusty and dirty looking. The ASEAN Summit will be held at a site in the reclamation area, we could expect some improvements though in the months to follow.

Here's the continuation of the pictures I posted above:

From the United Nations Avenue, one can take a detour to the Mandaue City reclamation area instead of going straight to the main highway (Cebu North Road).

The Mandaue City reclamation area connects with the North Reclamation Area (Cebu Port Centre) in Cebu City through the Sergio Osmeña Avenue:

The Sergio Osmeña Avenue will be connected with the South Road Properties through the underground road (popularly known here as the tunnel or the subway) which is still under construction.

The South Road Properties connects with southern Cebu through the far more world class highway called the "South Coastal Highway."
But I don't have a pic of it here. It's in the previous threads anyway.

-----> This is how the Mactan-Cebu International Airport connects with the rest of Cebu..

Gov?t mulls P1-B budget to improve nautical highway

The National Government intends to spend P1 billion to further build up the country?s nautical highway system next year, Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu, 1st district) said.

The amount would be used to complete the remaining links of the western, central and eastern nautical highways and strengthen the viability of the entire system, Gullas said.

?The funds will be spent mainly to improve the network of municipal ports and coastal roads that support the nautical highways,? he added.

The project, he said, will further ease transportation services and mobility in seaside towns leading to harbors that form part of the system.

To date, Gullas said the expanded nautical highway system, which includes the Cebu-Bohol-Camiguin roll-on, roll-off (RORO) complex, has reduced transport costs by 37 to 43 percent for passengers and by 24 to 34 percent for cargo.

He said travel time has also been reduced by 10 to 12 hours.

Domestic trade

As a result of the considerable reduction in transport cost and travel time, Gullas said the nautical highway system has also invigorated domestic merchandise trade and tourism in a big way.

The nautical highway system maximizes the use of RORO facilities to move passengers and cargo from Mindanao through the Visayas to Luzon.

The Western Nautical Highway is the western seaboard trunk route from Manila to Dipolog City or the Northwestern tip of Min-danao, which connects to the central trunk route at Cebu City in Central Visayas.

The Central Nautical Highway is the central trunk route connecting Pilar, Sorsogon to Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, passing through Central Visayas and connecting to the East-West trunk routes at Cataingan, Masbate and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.

The Eastern Nautical Highway is the eastern sea link that binds Biliran, Leyte to Surigao City or the Northwestern tip of Mindanao and connects to the Central trunk route at Cataingan, Masbate.

To spur countryside development, government first sought to promote the RORO transportation system in 2003, through the issuance of two executive orders.

The Philippine Ports Authority has also issued rules prescribing the procedures for the privatization of state-owned RORO terminals that form part of the nautical highway system.

ganda ganda talaga ng Cebu nakakataba ng puso ang lahat ng developments! are there any plans to build a tollway or expressway? I'm just thinking that they should at least put that in their plans before everything gets too built up and there won't be space anymore

The northern part of Cebu Province you mean? There's already a plan for a so-called "Cebu North Coastal Road," a far more better alternative to its older counterpart, the Cebu North road. However there's no rendering yet. The said project was planned right after the completion of the south coastal road in the South Road Properties (SRP). It was meant to complement the new expressway down south.

By the way, the McArthur Boulevard posted by slerz above is Sergio Osmeña Avenue. It has been renamed already. But I would prefer reverting it back to its old name.. Too many Osmeña streets in Cebu already, very confusing; kulang nalang they would rename Cebu City to Osmeña City... Hehehe..

i hope they would try to improve there sidewalks and make it lively like the boardwalk in manila..

@ramvigar

Haven't heard any plans for a tollway yet like the NLEX but I guess that wouldn't be possible. Cebu is an island kasi, medyo masikip din ang space because from the shoreline, a little bit of space lang bundok na kaagad (especially in the northern part). Unlike in Luzon which is made up of many provinces with so many urban areas therefore the tollway system.

@slerz

wow nice photos slerz of the South coastal road... Haven't been there yet.. Do you know the maximum speed for vehicles there? Because my classmate bragged that he drove his car at 120kph

you're right about the expressways... Cebu's highways only serves vehicles from 1 province, the Cebu province unlike in Metro Manila highways that serves more than 30 provinces of Luzon island that's why expressways are very feasible in the Metro...
but IMO, Cebu's traffic is worser than in Manila coz traffic congestions here in Cebu is already gettin worst thinking that this is only 1 province...
More than 50% of Metro Manila's vehicles comes from different provinces in Luzon but if MManila's streets will only be exclusive to Metro manila residents which is equivalent to Cebu Province, there will be no problem but if we compare it to Metro Cebu, as of this moment only the Cebu province is using Metro Cebu's streets but the traffic here is quite bad... but not that ban naman maybe it's getting there almost...

_ _ _ _ _
I dunno the maximum speed limit basta my friend sad who had his test drive with me reached 140kph, hehe... asta gud akong atay nisaka...
