The Dynamic Oasis of the Gulf
Metropolitan Workshop was invited to take part in this exciting competition by the Norplan group, With NSW Arkitekter & Planleggere as the lead architect. The competition brief asked that the population of the city of Doha is increased from 500,000 inhabitants to around 2 million over the next 15-20 years. The challenge has been to create a sustainable city for the future. Our team have put forward a proposal for green links tying together the city and providing much needed recreational facilities, a top notch new public transport network, and some major infrastructural changes to remove traffic from central Doha and thus freeing up the waterfront. The centrepiece of the proposal is a large new park, comparable to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. The park acts as a showcase for Sport, Leisure, Culture, and Health Tourism together with a new governmental complex. The park will act as a green oasis within the country and become a symbol for the new and dynamic city. Team: The Norplan Group with NSW Arkitekter & Planleggere Metropolitan Workshop Stup Architects Metropolitan Workshop Team: Marcus Brett, Margaret Bursa, Rhys Cannon, John Craske, Neil Deely, Daniel Dendra, John Oliver, Tomas Stokke ![]() ![]()

Wow, thank you Salman! It may seem the plan looks too furturistic, but realistic. The new airport is already almost completed. The current port will be demolished. The bridge-tunnel is interesting though. I am not sure of the tunnel part but I just guessed--so dont take my word on it. But, the whole plan looks realistic. I love the greenergy in the Bidda area--which is already taking effect. THe old buildings there are demolished a long time ago.

After some reading, I've found out (if you didn't know it) that this is sugguestions for Doha's masterplan. Surbana is by the way a company from Singapore, and here are some sugguestions from a norwegian company: http://www.aftenposten.no/kul_und/article1441697.ece
**EDIT** I can translate the website, if you want! |
