#007 l Two International Finance Center l HONG KONG l 415m l 88fl

Two International Finance Center
Hong Kong, China

HEIHGT: 412 meters/1,352 feet
FLOORS: 88 floors
COMPLETION: 2003
ARCHITECT: Cesar Pelli & Associates Architects

World-renowned architect Cesar Pelli was selected to design Two International Finance Center after winning an international design competition. In the tradition of true skyscrapers, the design of Two International Finance Center is simple, strong and memorable. A great obelisk in the scale of the city and the harbor, it culminates in a sculptural crown that celebrates the height of the tower reaching to the sky. The top of Two International Finance Center was designed as a welcoming gesture to the city, and when lit at night it is a shimmering beacon by Victoria Harbor.

Two International Finance Center represents a new generation of office buildings. The building provides approximately two million sq ft of prime office accommodation with an average floor plate in excess of 23,000 sq ft. *Built to cater to the rigorous requirements of professional and financial companies, a virtually column-free floor plate features a 15-metre core wall to window depth, ensuring efficient use of space. Raised floor access, for more flexible cabling management, is available throughout the building. There are also 22 specifically designed trading floors, with a ceiling height from raised floor to suspended ceiling of 3.3 meters.

The building offers advanced passenger and service lift systems, flexible air-conditioning and a dual power supply, complemented by a comprehensive communications and information technology infrastructure.

7.5/10 - THe facade really dances with the light, and I like the fresh blue color; the slim, white mullions and spandrels provide contrast, and the indentations make the shape livelier. It's also slim enough to have really good, soaring height, and this is helped by the small set backs.

HOWEVER...I deducted at least a point for the way the tower curves inward towards the roof; that, along with whatever is on the roof, gives the top section of an otherwise crisp and elegant tower a creepy, almost organic feel - like the mouth of a worm or eel - and the metal spikes on the roof, if that's what they are, look like teeth **ugghh!**

8/10...I like everything but the top. The facade is nice and shiny, and as Liz L said plays very well with the light. The white stripes going up add a nice twist to the building.

Wow! I've got a picture of this underconstruction, when my sister went to Hong Kong last year.
What a building!
Apart from resembling a huge set of male genitals in this pic:

its a beautiful building. It really does look new and shiny!
Very tall, beautiful shiny exterior and another gem in the middle of one of the greatest skylines in the world!!

9/10

I don't like the 2ifc being built in HK island, it does not match others. But it would look good if it builds with Union Square 7 in Kowloon. IMO

Would've rated it 8.5, but 9 for it's sheer height!

It looks a lot better than I thought it would, but it's not really special. 8.5/10

what can one say?...another Pelli masterpiece!...it looks incredible in the HK skyline and I do like the way the top tapers instead of a flat roof which would have been reminiscent of the former WTC....one of my favorite skyscrapers in the world right now.....10/10!
