Thanks for the heads up on the renderings! I was really down on this. But those renderings are pretty nice. If this is what we are getting so be it. It may not add much to the skyline, but it will REALLY add to the area. Whole Foods, plus residential and the movie theater. Plus it's not as short as I had thought it would be, and actually looks pretty nice. It's not the towering monolith many wanted, but I'll take anything over an empty lot. I'm actually pretty excited for this.

Links can also contain viruses, so you can't really blame anybody for not wanting to click on a link. Thanks for taking the chance for us.

I like the building... I hate that massive base for parking only... with respects to street interaction, Coral Gables is kicking Miami's butt.

Also I hope they're using the movie theater's "minimalist" blank walls to somehow project something on them... if not... we already have enough meaningless blank walls througout Miami.

So what do you think of the new renderings? I remember we were pretty disappointed last time we saw them, but I'm really warming up to it now. I would have preferred a signature tower, but I think the thought of just getting ANYTHING there is making me happy. I like the design of the building, and I'm excited for the movie theater as well.

Well, after nearly a decade of anticipating a new tallest going there, I'm still pretty disappointed. I was hoping the Brazilians could revitalize the original plan, but as UMdev has continually said, the vast majority of interest is in Brickell, and we are more likely to see a new tallest in Banco Santander and/or 1101 Brickell before OBP gets built.

Those blank walls on the MET Square rendering are hideous. Remember the last shopping center we had downtown with blank walls? Visions of the Omni are spinning in my head!

The saga continues:

http://www.bizjournals.com/southflor...e-roundup.html

Quote:
MDM moves forward with market and garage, rental tower out

MDM Development is working to begin vertical construction on the parking pedestal with a Whole Foods Market on the ground floor at its downtown Miami site. But the planned rental tower above it is on hold.
MDM had been negotiating with Equity Residential to build more than 400 apartments as part of the third phase of its Metropolitan Miami project, dubbed Met 3. But that deal is not going forward, according to sources.
MDM would only comment on what it will build.

I rode by the site today on the Brickell trolley coming back from Bayside and my Thriller speedboat tour. Absolutely nothing was going on there. Not one single construction worker; not one single piece of construction equipment. The "up" side of this is only that maybe another developer will come along and building something better than that ugly rental building.

Don't worry. It's Suffolk. They're building smart.

Equity Residential was the backing for the rental portion of the deal, but they pulled out. So they're now trying to find someone new. They don't want to do like Skyline at Mary Brickell Village and build the bottom portion and then have to stop and hope they can find someone later. We all see how that worked out. So I wouldn't expect much on this site for a while.

It's a shame because the central business district could really use more residential and that whole foods would be a game changer toward making the area more liveable.
