There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris.

I haven't been to Cambridge actually, although I have been to York. I prefer Oxford over York though.

Oh, you must go next time then! It's beautiful (especially the King's Chapel). I actually find the layout of the town better, and livelier than Oxford. It's underrated, I guess.

I agree cambridge is a very nice town, pretty buildings and it does seem fairly lively & modern

but I personally prefer Oxford for the architecture.

Thanks for your support! I actually have a batch from Toronto that I will post very soon. It has been a bit insane lately with a lot of photo processing from my Euro trip. I'm trying to add a little variety to the cities I post.
