UAE Shawerma chain to open 17 new outlets

Following the success of its new Kuwait outlet, Al Farooj shawerma has announced it will open up to 17 new outlets in 2012, and concentrate on finding new franchise partners in the West.

At the moment there are 29 outlets in the UAE, four in Lebanon and one in Kuwait, but Saleh Abdullah Lootah, chairman of Al Farooj restaurants is keen to create a presence in the international market.

“We are looking for a suitable franchisee to take up in the Canadian food market for this halal cuisine,” he revealed.

“In 2012 we are planning 14- 17 new outlets in Lebanon, France, India, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Pakistan, Libya, Canada, Morocco, Algeria and KSA.

“We have invested a sizeable amount of money into the Al Farooj expansion and it’s becoming a strong franchise opportunity due to its popularity, Arabic heritage and low franchise fee."

Lootah hopes to soon bring more brand awareness to the product with a new social media strategy: “At the moment and with low activity volume, our social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are estimated to bring in 2% of our overall sales.

“We are working on drafting a fully-fledged social media strategy to drive consumer traffic to Al Farooj, and turn brand awareness into engagement.”

Al Farooj was launched in 1994. In 2007 Al Islami acquired an 80% stake in the company.
