it's really fantastic design. mostly i've seen the exterior and interior thai mesuem with an old thai theme design. but nowaday we founded that there is many interesting museums such as astronomy mesuem, energy conservation mesuem, dinosaur mesuem in northeast of Thailand. this is proudly representatives of our country.

It registers hits by reading a laser beam, so there's no real ammunition involved.

1- 5 April 2008

National Science Museum, Thailand

Science centers and museums : Sustainability into the future

To commemorate the 10th year of ASPAC, it is time to review and plan for the future ! What would be the best practice for the sustainability of science centers and what would the science centers do to foster science in the sustainability agenda ? In ASPAC 2008, we hope to share and foresee together, the opportunity and necessity of our science community to ensure the promising future of our society and the region.

Welcome to ASPAC 2008 In Thailand, the Land of Smiles!

National Science Museum (NSM), Thailand, would like to extend our warm invitation to all ASPAC members and all who are interested in joining the 2008 ASPAC Conference which will be held at our venue in Technopolis, Pathum Thani province, which is about 40 kilometers north of Bangkok. The conference will also provide an opportunity to visit the Science Center for Education and the Children Museum in Bangkok.

In the celebration of our Thai New Year “Songkran’s Festival” in the middle of April, authentic Thai experiences such as traditional Thai cuisine cooking and herbal remedies sessions will be especially included in the program.

Its a really nice museum, but its so far away. I guess it makes sense that its in the "Information Corridor" planned for North Bangkok, but there should also have a branch in the city center, for example, in the Tobacco Industry's land.

Zero-gravity research opening

Bangkokpost 22/05/2008

Young Thai researchers with the right ideas have the opportunity of a seat on a flight to observe experiments in zero gravity later this year. The Science and Technology Ministry is looking for secondary or undergraduate students to participate in a joint project in Japan.

Project manager Sawat Tantiphanwadi said the Student Zero-gravity Flight Experimental Contest is a cooperative effort between the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa).

Its aim is to encourage creativity and scientific discovery in the special conditions of zero-gravity flight.

''The rules are very simple. The project proposal must be new and practical.

''We don't want complicated procedures and devices that would pose difficulties during this space-like trial,'' he said.

Examples which were rejected included a proposal to observe a cockroach's life in micro-gravity conditions, he said. Japan has a ban on taking in cockroaches.

Another is a stem-cell study, which requires a long time and complex equipment.

Interested young people can make contact through the NSTDA website, www.nstda.or.th. Applications close at the end of June.

Thailand has participated in the project since 2006 under the scientific cooperation framework of Asean plus Three.

Two sisters became the first Thais to study medical drug dispersion under micro-gravity.

Last year, two young male students won a seat to study the flow of boiling water under micro-gravity conditions.

Wanaruk Chaimayo, a member of the water-flow team, said the research was done on board a plane that flew parabolic arcs, which each produced a short period of freefall, or micro-gravity.

The flight took two hours and the plane flew 10 parabolic arcs, each producing about 20 seconds of apparent weightlessness. For that moment the passengers floated like an astronaut in space and began the experiment.

Apaporn Noonyarattaphan, a member of the sister team, said they discovered that under micro-gravity pills have less capacity to disperse than in normal gravity on Earth.

Thai robot wins world title in China

Bangkokpost 21/07/2008

Suzhou, China - Thailand made it three-in-a-row at the World RoboCup 2008 competition in China yesterday when its Chulalongkorn University team swept aside the challenge of its three rivals in the finals.

A tank-shaped robot, Plasma RX, developed by a team of students at the university’s engineering faculty, proved too skillful when it came to moving along a rugged and bumpy surface to reach victims of a mock disaster scene during the rescue event.

Team leader Naowarat Termthanasombat said they found pressure as their major obstacle as Thailand was the defending champion.

The two previous titles, in 2006 and 2007, were won by a team from the King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok’s Prachin Buri campus.

‘‘Our victory today was the result of team unity,’’ she said after the win.

Ms Naowarat hoped their rescue robot model would be further developed for use for real rescue operations in Thailand.

Her team built the Plasma RX with financial support from the Siam Cement Group (SCG).

They developed software that enables the robot to locate victims more precisely using a camera and a laser-range finder. But it was its mobility that earned them the most applause in the competition.

Competition was held in four different categories — rescue, soccer, everyday life, and a junior event.

In the RoboCup soccer event, another team from Chulalongkorn University won the title, beating a team from the United States.

‘‘In the past, other countries were not much interested in us, but now they’ve begun to ask and learn from us,’’ said Jackrit Suthakorn, chairman of the Thai Robot Society.

Thai students net three gold medals at Academic Olympiads

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - Thai students won three gold medals from Academic Olympiads Competitions -- two from the International Mathematical Olympiad in Spain and one from the International Chemistry Olympiad in Hungary, according to Thailand's institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST).

The Thai students earlier netted three gold medals and one silver at the International Biology Olympiad in India.

IPST acting director Naree Vongsirojgul said Thai youth won two gold medals, three silvers and one bronze
at the International Mathematical Olympiad held in the Spanish capital of Madrid July 10-22.

There were 535 competitors from 103 countries in the contest, she said.

Thailand's gold medalists were Pasin Manurangsi from Bangkok Christian College and Warat Suksompong from Triam Udom Suksa, while the silver medal winners were Supanat Kamtue, Suthee Ruengwiset and Payut Phantawongdecha, and bronze winner Patcharapol Sutheparak, all from Triam Udom Suksa.

The Thai student team also scored sixth highest among the 97 countries participating, with 175 points -- which was also the highest score that Thailand ever won since ithe country began to participate in the competition, she said.

The students were scheduled to return to Thailand on Wednesday, according to Ms. Naree.

Meanwhile, she said that four Thai students had attended the International Chemistry Olympiad in Hungary
July 12-22 and successfully won one gold medal and three silvers.

The gold medalist was Phakphoom Aungpanitcharoen from Bangkok Christian College, while the silver medalists were Chalermchai Gomenthammasophon and Thanathorn Khorthaweewathana from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School and Thechin Chulathet from Triam Udom Suksa, she said. The four would return to Thailand on Wednesday. (TNA)
