Archiconnoisseur, great! This is the very same idea I had, my laziness prevented me from posting it before, so thanks for having reminded me. What about this:

I prefer the round hole too, but I understand why the Chinese object to it... as it is. On the other hand, there has to be a hole because of the need to alleviate the wind pressure etc. Now I wonder: isn't there a chance to install a set of polarized laser lights (holograms) and obtain an effect such as the one depicted above, without the need for a solid screen? If so, many tricks could be possible... imagine the symbol rotating... imagine it morphing into a football, or anything...
So, shall we put on a committee to "Save the round hole"?

i find the construction diagram and chart of buildings status very interesting and am suprised no one has commented on it thus far. Concerning the chart, the 588m building is under the status never built but has a date next to it. Is this the third lujiazui supertall? if so why is it under never built? what is never built supposed to mean as in are the buildings proposed without approval or are they just architectural fantasy and is there a chance for them to be built? cuz there are a lot of 400m+ buildings under construction that would make shanghai soooo amazing if they are built

The picture is Yinyang map from ancient Chinese Dao theory. Yin and Yang mean two opposites things which always are moving and should keep in balance. Either one over another would cause illness. Chinese traditional medicine and Qigong, Gongfu, Taiji all are based on the theory. The map would be better to fit into the hole.

Another complaint might come out.
Anyways, I think China should be confident, especially when the design of Taiji belongs to us.
