Hmmm...it doesn't look like tht from the pic. Anyways i ahev to take u re word for that.

Maybe the military might have constructed it on a natural wetland and once they abandoned it....the nature took over....

Thnks for the info man. Appreciate tht.

The Shanghai city itself was built on beach/mudflat/delta. So it is not surprising to form wetland without humanbeing┤s disturb. Anyway the whole area of Jiangwan is not large. The total area is only about 9.5 square Km, and at least half of it had been occupied by military facilities and the runway. Compared with the 326 square Km of East Beach/Dongtan wetland, the influence to the birds is neglectable. Besides Dongtan, there are many other patches of wetland/mudflat alongside the coast of Shanghai. I spent lots of time there during my high school, especially in the summer holiday. That is great memory. Even now there are still many of them. My buddies in high school told me via MSN last month that they would recently hold an re-gather in the exact place (in Pudong/Chuansha) where we played many times before.

As for the airport, it was constructed during the WWII by Japanese.

I don't know if anyone posted this before, and I got this from skyscrapercity like a year ago, so I could be plagiarizing someone image, but this caused my jaw to drop.

It's taken by XiaoBai (AntonAusTirol @ SPP). That man really gotta put watermarks on his photos, since they tend to get posted on every other page in this thread.

I've taken a similar photo from the Jin Mao Tower, but obviously not nearly as good as the one above:

Xujiahui Tower new design... Around 80f

Posted by moyan808 at Cityrain's thread

The design has improved, but it looks like Freedom Tower too much with that terrible spire. If they cut that off the tower will be perfect imo.

Old design

Great video, your link is broken though

Now, some renders

Around 50 midrises planned!

The project is amazing, but the conceptual design looks a little boring, too many boxy clones. I hope they apply a single design for each one.

The XuJiaHui tower design is a bit overdone I would say. Still though, impressive - especially the height!

whats wrong with boxy clones? one could appreciate some boxy designs once in a while. I know I do. Extremely dense boxy clones stretching for dozens of miles like in Tokyo or Taipei sure beat rundown hutongs filling in gaps for whacky high-rises like in Shanghai currently. Hopefully they will acknowledge this and later you have city planning like that of Tokyo or Taipei. And looking at changfeng's location on the map of Shanghai, it does not look to far from the city center but the picture in the second rendering looks like its in the middle of nowhere! isnt that area surrounding changfeng's location very dense?
