Some of the projects seen in it have been realized already, but I think most of them won't be built - especilly not that 'ring' over the crossing, as well as the buildings in the top right corner of the model. However, there's just a big abandoned grass field there today, so I'm sure something will be built!

flybird,
Pic number 5 in your last post is taken by giallo @ SSP, just to make sure he gets props for it.

I don't know it, all pix from collection of ss.cn.

sorry.

You better expect every other LEADING city on earth to halt all building construction if you think Shanghai or even Dubai will be coruscant. There are many more cities ahead, granted the current boom continues. There can and will be cycles of growth.

If you think that, you might as well add the cities that are ahead of it.
come to shanghai and watch shanghai by your own eyes.that's really incredible. it's skyscrapers, not like US city, concentrated in one district. in shanghai, every corner ,every corner ,skyscrapers. most impressive city i have ever been to. that's a micrale of human beings.

I agree. Shanghai is like nothing else on the planet.
While Hong Kong (and maybe New York) may have a more impressive skyline as such, Shanghai definately is a more visually brutal and impressive as a whole. An endless ocean of skyscrapers, in all directions.

Actually, shanghai already holds the title of having the most highrises, look up on wiki.

It's not really U/C as of yet. There is a designated plot in the North Bund area that has been cleaned up, but there are no cranes or anything yet. Not when I was there the last time at least (2-3 weeks ago) - so maybe something has happened since then.

it is ture that shanghai is not line-skyline but whole covered skyline.

I ever tried to walk from jing an temple, along nan jing xi road, then nan jing east road, up bund, cross huangpu river, around lujiazui, along century road, and finally on the century square. it took me 2 days and 15km long. all process covered tons of skyscrapers. but it is only small parts of shanghai.

don't judge a book by cover.

I believe Chinese cities like Shanghai or Shezhen (my two favs) will put new meaning to the word modern metropolis in both architecture, size and city life. They will be used as reference and comparance points like NY, Chicago, Paris, London, Tokyo etc

Actually, I think the picture showed another site which is across the street from North Bund Tower's designated plot. I'm not totally sure though.

WhiteMagick,
Chicago? I think Shanghai has surpassed a city like Chicago in many ways already.

I like the fact that it depicts the character 人 (ren = people), and the overall design.

On the website it says that it's status is 'ongoing', but I have no idea how to interpret that.
