Putrajaya looks fantastic. And i love planned cities, they always feel futuristic and sci-fi or, in the case of brasilia or canberra, kind of retro-futuristic.
Putrajaya is still very much a work in progress, isn't it? I'm assuming there'll be a lot more people there once the population reaches planned levels.

As a westerner living in Malaysia i can safelt say that a large part of the population do not live in slums... I havent seen any slums. Yes, there are under developed villages that seem detached from the modernity of KL, but they are just the equivalent of a poor fishing village in Italy but with a little more 'dirt'.
I'd say thats the main problems in Malaysia are the rubbish everywhere (everything seems to be towards the goal of being 'developed', im sure the rubbish problem will get sorted) and also the poor quality of new developments (cheap and nasty - will end up looking worse than what is currently there). However, I was surprised to see how similar Malaysia is in fact to parts of Europe. Just because the houses are not built from bricks or stone does not mean they are slums!
