By all means have a thread for lowrise buildings, but it won't be stickified.
In case you haven't noticed, this is skyscrapercity.com

To be honest I feel this forum has grown into more of an architecture forum than simply just a skyscraper one. In fact, I'd quite like to see us have the opportunity to start official construction threads for some of the large regeneration projects coming up for London alongside our skyscraper threads, as I feel these are just as important to discuss as skyscrapers are.

Yes, it is primarily about skyscrapers - but i think we all accept the site has evolved to become more of an Urban/architecture forum, taking into account all types of development

It would actually give something to talk about whilst the painfully slow site preparation process goes on for London's 5 biggies. There is nothing worse than there being nothing to talk about and people then posting meaningless posts on the skyscraper threads.

A poll on it seems a great idea if there is no unanimity.
@ Manuel: I found you contribution about London to the French thread very impressive. There is no other place, even not NLA, where I have ever seen such a comprehensive overview of exciting architectural projects in London. |

It's not restrictive at all. In fact it's spot on.
Being an educated Webmaster I must say it's pretty clear that skyscrapercity.com is a domain where one should really only expect to find skyscraper related content. In fact it's not good to have off-domain content on any website with such specific domain-names. This site already have a huge amount of off-domain stuff, maybe it's time they start thinking about a more generic domain. I welcome lowrise topics, but it should be in a separate sub-forum. |

I'd welcome threads on lowrise projects within the London forum.
Will's right that they shouldn't be stickified though, they should fight for attention like everything else on here. We have quite a few lowrise threads already with Riverbank House, London Wall/Moorgate Projects thread, Watermark Place etc. More would be welcome though, and I think we would have enough interest to sustain them within Projects and Construction. If we shunted them into a back water subforum they won't be exposed to the passing traffic of those who are mainly interested in skyscrapers. I joined this forum because of my interest in highrise architecture, but by being exposed to other types of projects I've broadened my horizon's. I think this should continue.

The list of projects is just too long. Heron is p.5. South Quay is p.8. Etc. At the end we always have these same 5 big projects in the City of London which won't start for another 2 years anyway./

Its as difficult one! As Jef says, if you dont have some separation then many people cant find the thread to update and start a new one..
On the other hand, if I had to visit a separate thread for lowrise, or highrise I would more likely not visit the lowrise very often and miss stuff for example. You could have just one division: a STRICT highrise thread Say 100m+ and one other thread for things like, lowrise, regeneration, Look how Shit hot London is, forum meetups, Polls etc.... Anything that goes well off highrise topics like chitchat could stay in the Highrise until the subject is dragged back on track and that part (chit chat)removed over to the other subsection in its own thread. This was, you would automatically have things not deleted, but moved safetly without critism from people (remember that happended recently) and they can continue the discussion if they choose Summary: 2 threads: Highrise projects and lowrise + other Edit: I just thought! Chit chat about Bishopsgate Tower could be moved to the 'Bishopsgate tower chat' thread and only the project updates, renders, news etc would be left in the proper thread...that way professionals dont have to trawl through my bullshit!

There are links to every project at the start of the summary thread. Or you can use the search engine.

This is where all getting together, watching slides and drinking tea whilst one of our experts gives us a talk in a village hall has it's advantages.
The old fashioned way... |

It dosen't bother me at all, but I think it might be easyer for new users + guests if we have diffrent fourms.
Maby we could do it how the world fourm is: - Supertalls - Highrises - General Urban Developments - City/Metro Compilations But we won't need a "Supertalls" fourm because we only have one at this time, and we also won't really need a "City/metro compilations" because we already have the "Full London Summary". So we would just have when you go on to the "London Metro Area" Fourm: Highrises, General Urban Developments & also any sticky's you want to add, eg "London - Full Summary Of Projects". |
