So the CN Tower's observation deck will still be the tallest in the world at 445m, 3m taller than the Burj?

Surely they would be crazy not to build the Burj's observation deck just a few floors further up to become the Worlds highest deck as well as the worlds tallest structure?

I do! I do! I've been on the observation deck of both the Sears Tower (412M) and NY's WTC Tower 2 (417M). You are amazed by both the height and how far you can see. BD's observation deck is around 442M. I don't know that another 30M is going to be significantly more impressive. In short, BD's observation deck doesn't pack very much WOW! factor for an 808M building.Though, I'll bet on a clear night you can see the lights of Abu Dhabi from BD.

I wonder if one of the very small suites on the highest floors could be leased and used as a restaurant, tourist destination or conference room. WTC 1 had a restaurant called Windows on the World on the 107th floor and a related conference area on the 106th floor. Many very tall US office towers have lounges or restaurants near the top floor.

Perhaps they will do the same thing as the CN tower and have 2, a main one that has a large capacity, and then a much smaller one that for a few bucks more you can go up to. The top one in the CN tower is very very small, BD could put a small on in the steel section at the top.

Fellow Canadian here.

It's funny that the Burj Dubai observation deck is suggested to be at 442M while the CN tower's upper observation deck is 445M. I know, I live in the same country as the CN tower, but it's kind of surprising if that's true. I would bet the 442M number in this diagram is incorrect and the observation deck is actually a little bit higher to outdo our tower. Just bump it a storey or two, and boom, presto, you've annihilated the World Record.

Congrats for such a tall tower -- I'll definitely eventually visit Dubai to sightsee all of its wonders as soon as most of them are built. (And take a nice Emirates A380 flight to get there, too.)

The thing is, the floors near the top are too small for a main observation deck, although I do think they should make a smaller one on the 150th floor or so. If it does end up at 442m though then it'll have some serious competition from the burj al alam skydeck which is also at a similar height but is outdoor and provides 360 degree views.

Haha I forgot about SWFC

What about Hong Kong's ICC - what height will that observation deck be at?

^ i think ICC has one about 450m?
maybe emmarr didnt realise how high the space deck on CNTower was? maybe they thought 124th floor was high enough? i havnet been to cns space deck but ive been told its small. i reckon the 124th floor on burjD will be a quitea bit larger area. maybe burjD might have a "space deck" also at 160th?lol

the thing about the WTC was that the OBDeck was ON the roof, you were outdoors.

Didn't I read somewhere that Burj Dubai's observation deck would be an indoor/outdoor one? Maybe they're coinciding it with one of the setbacks so people can go out on the top of a setback? I definitely agree with the idea of having a premium observation deck on a higher floor. Both Eiffel Tower AND Tokyo Tower have 2 observation decks. With both you can pay an extra fee to take a smaller elevator to a much smaller floor near the top of the tower. I hope there's somebody at Emaar / SOM reading this who'll take up this idea. It doesn't matter that the top one has a floor area. It's simple economics. Many people will be unwilling to pay the extra - but others will. If the top one is too crowded they can just charge more for people to go up that one, or restict the time people can go up that one.

I wish BD didnt get so skinny at the top and taper to that spire. I think the should have just stopped at roof level.
