anyway 64 floors= 243m/800ft!
I counted 62 (surely) or 63 (possibly) floors on the latest updates from Thursday.

so it could be 64 now, remember the inner core rises rather fast if the focus on it.

Tourism is not the only focus of Dubai's vision.
There are projects targeting every possible business, from IT to Media to Healthcare.

and the old part, the harbour with the dows as u call it is Dubai creek which is pretty long actually, will be extended to the new CBD with some cultural projects like opera house on its own island and culture village.

they will never destroy the old parts of Dubai, but there are a lot of beautification projects going on.

Oh man it already looks slim its a pity that it isnt wider! But maybe when the cladding is on it will look more massive!Hope to see the cladding begin soon!

Thank you Imre!!!

Arabtec's update for July (a bit older than Imre's):

^ You can see on the right that the office building is progressing well (around 4 or 5 floors more to go). At the back of Burj's from this perspective, the north parking side is also rising. (south-west completed, south-east nearly completed).

For complete monthly sequence from this perspective see: http://www.arabtecuae.com/Burj

Credits to DubaiDon on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/).

Uploaded today (and looks very recent), from Dusit Dubai building:

Sorry for it's big size, but it's necessary to see the details of this massive construction site.

In front (black buildings) Burj Dubai Business Hub.
On the left the massive Dubai Mall, and behind this also the massive Burj Dubai Lake Hotel (on 7th story, and the last one of it's characteristic podium with its setbacks).
In the middle Old Town Island, and the mighty Burj Dubai.
Behind those, Old Town, South Ridge and The Residences Phase 1 (Phase 2 behind Burj).

More (big!!! ) images at DubaiDon's Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dubaidon/ (thank you DubaiDon! )

In this panoramic (medium size) you can see Dubai Mall Hotel on the left (around 11th story):

Original: http://static.flickr.com/88/213821020_f4cb098599_o.jpg

A REMINDER: BURJ DUBAI IS STILL UNDER 30% OF IT'S FULL HEIGHT (I think now it is 3.5*62 = 217 m, that is 27 % of 808m - final height not official, only a guess - )

Although it seems that it's going to be 808m, I have the feeling that they are going to push it a bit more higher (around 850m). But that's only a feeling (based on Alabbar - Emaar CEO - saying that "at least" it's going to be 850m, and that the foundations were oversized for 950m, so going for "only" 808m is not logical when the top steel portion is relatively cheap).

About the observation deck, I think that putting it at aroung 445m it's a mistake. But because of that, I don't believe on that figure. If they (groups involved in Burj's construction) are publishing many incoherent final heights, maybe they are doing the same with the ob deck.

Floor area at 550m is not so small as many people think: around 750 square meters.
If you need more space, you can take several floors. Indeed, it's probably that they will take 2 floors (express elevators were said to take more than 500m, and that they were going to be double decker, so 2 floors for the ob deck is OK with this fact).
So 2 floors is 1500 square meters. Compare this to the summit of the Eiffel tower, that is 350sqm on the lower deck (counting elevators, service areas, etc.), and around 150sqm on the terrace, so 500sqm total for 3 million visitors a year (6 million for all 3 levels at Eiffel tower, not only the summit), or 400 people simultaneously (that makes a capacity of around 1200 people for Burj's ob deck). And Eiffel tower is one of the most visited monuments in the world, so it's a good comparative.

Also, don't forget that ob decks are good business!!!! (CN tower is very profitable because of that, with it's 2 million visitors a year). With 3 million visitors a year, and 15 euros per visitor, they would get the cost of the tower (2500 million euros) in 60 years. That's a good thing...

And for those who think that is slender, yes, it's slender for it's height, but it's also very wide: 160 meters wide at podium level, 94 meters wide at first floors, 45 meters wide at 400meters, and around 30 meters wide at 575 meters. It's not record breaking in floor area, but it's because it's y-shape (maximizing views, which is better than a lot of area inside the building). And from an engineering and structural point of view, it's much more interesting and dificult a slender building than a bulky one. And BD is not comparable with a telecommunications tower, because of all the floors and living spaces (with all the services associated) that have to be constructed.

Oh... Sorry for the storm of facts and the massive post (my post count will rise very slowly.... )

when does cladding start going up?

is the roof height confirmed?

is the different quotes for height coming from the possible heights of the spire, above a fixed roof height?

thanks

Not confirmed, but an estimation is around 640m (although I think it'll be higher).

Yes, but although they've said that they will not add more floors if the rise the top steel structure, they may actually add more of them, because the expected floor count was 162, but a newspaper said that floor 189 was sold. So... nothing clear
