sharia is not used for everything.
there is both sharia and secular law. not sure when is used when. i think secular law is used in the vast majority of civil law cases

All the laws are derived from Islam however it isnt used exactly the same

for example homosexuality, adultery and gambeling are illegal. Gambeling isnt allowed at all but the punishment of adultery and homosexuality isnt the right Islamic punishment.

The family law is totally derived from the Sharia and that is regarding marriege, divorce, children .... etc.

being drunk outdoor is a crime although alcohol is being sold in dedicated places.

We have the regular banks and the Islamic companies which totally runs on Islamic laws.

those kind of stuff

I see. Thanks for the info. What are the punishments for gambling, homosexuality etc if i may ask?

Some say the tower will be 808m but others argue it will be more.

punishments are set on case by case basis. Dubai's culture and rules/regulations are unique to the area and different from many other places in the Middle East. That is why we'd appreciate if generalization like "Dubai doesnt celebrate New Years" are not made (just for the record... entire Dubai is ALIVE on New Years and Xmas eves and one of the best places to be for these occasions).

i can confirm this, having been there in 2005

U people have to understand that Dubai is the most multicultural city in the world..

if muslims would have new year on Dec 31st, Christians on Jan1st, Hindus on Jan2nd we would have on big party weekend...

It's just 5 million petty little people out of 6 billion on the planet diverting the world's attention and limited resources away from real problems that aren't self-inflicted. Sad!

Oh. And maybe Israel wouldn't be killing so many Leabanese civilians if Hezbollah wasn't hinding among civilians like a bunch of cowards while they kidnap and intentionally fire rockets at Israeli civilian targets. There is no sympathetic side to this conflict.

Now, back to skyscrapers.

I have more sympathies for the innocent Lebanese who got dragged into the war by Hezbollah than for any Israeli any day. And that has to do with the fact that the world doesnt value any lives of the Palestinians or the Lebanese or any other ethnicity around Israel at all. Its like they have a right to be expended.

But I dont think this is a thread for discussion about that at all. If you want to discuss it more, PM me.

BTW, the Burj Dubai is coming up nicely! Anybody who wants to detract and throw rubbish on Dubai is just jealous.

Dubai celebrate it officially near Burj Al Arab every year

+ i remember Dubai was the only city in the GCC to celebrate the new millennium, many cities didn't do so because it was bumped into Ramadan period.

Wow, 44 hrs without a single post. That must be a record for the Burj thread.

There are some half decent updates taken at night on the UAE thread.

Hi all. Hey Bikes, I just now noticed a PM from you from june 11.
Gotta talk out here man. You can use any and all pics I post as I used them without even knowing who took them ...
While I am very gratefull to who took them, I have way too many to deal with that, and lots I have no idea who took them...
871 pics and counting including renders, plans, Dubai aerials, etc.
More More More ... Did I mention I love this tower.

YEAH WE SHOULD STICK WITH 800M-810M.BUT I REALLY HOPE THE LAST FLOOR IS AROUND 705M WHICH WOULD BE 2,312 FEET.SO THERE WOULD BE CLOSE TO 105M SPIRE WHICH WOULD BE 344 FEET TALL.WHICH WOULD BE THE SO COOL IF THAT IS TRUE.BUT WE WILL NEVER NO UNTIL ITS DONE.
