It’s really rare to see such synagogues in the areas of former USSR. They destroyed even most of the churches or converted them to public buildings. And Jewish religion was almost completely annihilated.

If it weren't for Armenia between Turkey and Azerbaijan, maybe the two would have merged into one nation. OMG, I sound like a Pan-Turkist.

no no when you said Ankara is boring I said "I love ankara"...

Zohar, I have a question: Is there a change in Azerbaijan. How are the people, do they look at the future with hope? Because they will probably be the Switzerland of Caucasus in the future. What are the negative and possitive sides of the country now?

Baku developing very very fast!U can see a new building in every corner, they destroy every thing, many new bridges U/C,the streets are very clean, this city is going ahead, many new works, btw its not so cheap like Turkey

positive things:hospitable people(remind me of Turkey especially if u speak their language),many things to do,many places to visit,a city is green

negative things:close minded people (except one place like Taxim in Istanbul) but still Taxim is much more liberal, many vahabbits from Chechnya/Iran/Saudia (it was a bit scary for me),bad transport (u can see 20 people in 1 small taxi for 10 people),too horny guys (bad for girls)(the same problem with Turkey)

Azerbaidjan looks nicer than I expected. But based on what you listed as the negative and positives, I'm still surprised you'd like to live there.

I agree and that's why I like travelling to such places. Europe and the US bores me now. But if I had to live somewhere permanently, I don't know. I really hate cold weather though so that limits my choices a lot.
