Just watched the Discovery Atlas: China Revealed show that somebody here mentioned. Great show. Great cinematography. Kudos to the production team.

The history of China has been so turbulent, and it will continue to change rapidly going into the future.

@zOrg, GerardB, Shanghai City
thanx for the info. So Shanghai is even bigger than I thought. Shanghai is probably the world's second city in terms of population of metropolitan area, only after Tokyo (35,000,000).

That makes no sense. If it was their own soil they wouldn't need to invade, because it would already be theirs!

Westerners use the word "invade", we don't consider it invasion.
Should I say Communist Army invaded Beijing? For them it is just "liberation", for me it is just "taking over" after KMT army were defeated and fled.

Plus, wansui sounds much more civilised than über alles. Seeking longevity vs seeking supremacism, East vs West

"Deutschland über alles" actually means that the idea of a united Germany should stand above the fractmented small states, as what we know as Germany was made of many small and mid-size principalities and kingdoms up until 1871.

In a way, China is a similar situation. Taiwan is still fractmented from the rest of China.

I do know the meaning. Why do you think I quoted it? It is a nationalistic rallying cry for extremism which, in practice, led to the death of millions. The fact that you don't reject it, indeed that you seem to embrace it, is revealing and sad.

I can't believe Beijing's render is huge. Forbidden City is incredible striking among those high-rises.
