Ive fallen in love with Chongqing! Im not sure why. People tell me its really polluted etc. I think I like it because it reminds me of New York and that penensula the CBD is on kinda is like Mahattan.

And with such kind of "dried communist thinking", China gets 12% GDP growth rate this year(2006) so we can have enough money to build whatever skyscrapers we like.

Skyscrapers are good. But I wish Chinese govt can preserve more of its past such Beijing's hutong alleways. Very sad that they are demolished so quickly (as fast as China's growth).

That set aside, I think best skylines in China in 30 years time will belong to either Shanghai or Chongqing.

I guess the best skylines in China will belong to Shanghai or Guangzhou in the near feature since Guangzhou is spending 35 Billion USD on hundreds of skylines projects that must be finished before 2010 Asia Games. Chongqing looks OK but it doesn't have enough money to support so many projects.

the hutong area was a residential area built more than 500 years ago when the mongols ruled China. the word "hutong" is mongolian and it stands for water well. hutong does not have as much artistic or cultural value as the temples and palaces and it's long past its expiration date. the only purpose they serve is some historical culture value. i think the only place hutong belongs to is a musem, hutong is completely unsuitable as a residential area for a modern chinese society.

Agree GuangZhou is going to compete with Shanghai especially the "New City on Pearl River 珠江新城";
ChongQing is now a direct-jurisdictional city being independent from SiChuan Province, aiming at exalt ChongQing's juche on development,
I believe she may perform a much faster growth than the national average in coming 10~20 years alike ShenZhen and is able to self-finance all proposed development.

Only a country like China can make masterplans like these. With 1.3 billion people it is a country that can support the massive developments in each of these cities!

They are stunning!

are they all even going to get built? or is it the common trend of making masterplans and not doing anything with them for almost 100 years.
