I'm really looking forward to when they install the colored glass panels. You see how there are missing gaps in the glass curtain? Those are where the greenish or yellowish glass panels will go (not sure of the exact tint or tints that will be used).

^Do they know exaxctly which colored panels go where? I thought it was based on a random pattern.

It isn't random. They made it look like it's random with the glazed glass panels, but even those were maticulously placed in certain spots. I believe the colored panels will all be the same color (maybe not), but regardless, they'll have a particular order to it. Too much money was put into this thing for anything to be random.

Wow Chipotle

Talk about the most lackluster list of tenants ever. At this point of the development the Legends had a few really good tenants listed, so I am a little dissappointed.

Famous Daves? That's an insult to KC. That's like opening P.F. Chang's in Hong Kong.

Yeah, we had quite the discussion on the kc site yesterday about Famous Daves. Gates and Bryant's, among other hometown KC BBQ joints had the option to locate in the district, but the rents were so high. Plus, these places already have nearby locations so it might not make sense to add another one so close to existing restaurants. Famous Daves is a proven money maker in KC, since the one in KCK is the highest earning Famous Daves in the nation. I've tried to go there and check it out on numerous occasions, and it's always packed....like an hour wait every time. So I've never tried it. From my KC cohorts, it sounds like it's nothing special compared to our hometown places. Basically it comes down to the sauce. KC is known for its sauces and it's impossible to out-do Bryant's and Gates in that category. I'm OK with the Famous Daves after thinking about it for a while. If it brings people DT then that is exactly what this project was supposed to do. If someone from out of town wants some authentic KC BBQ, then they can ask around about where to go.

The plan is that the P&L is such a success that it will spur peripheral development into other parts of DT and the Crossroads area. If that happens then you'll probably see some other hometown joints re-locate down there, or just open new restaurants.

The Chipotle will be good for DT, but nothing to call a press conference over. The places I'm looking forward to are Mosaic Lounge and Gordon Biersch.

Cordish still has a lot of tenants to announce between now and the opening day (near October of 2007) so I'm guessing they'll be saving their best for last.

Actually, I'd take Famous Dave's bbq sauce over the thin vinegary sauces at Arthur Bryant's and the corn starch they serve at Gate's. Famous Dave's has nothing on the quality and taste of the meats they smoke at these two KC locals though.

Famous Dave's is a sound place for chain BBQ, but I agree that it is silly for them to try and grab market share in a place with the abundance and quality of BBQ that KC already has.

What is that new glass stadium pictured on page 7? I went back a few pages but nobody ever refers to it by name.

What sport?

I'm sure Dave's is pretty good. I'm sure I'd like it, but still have yet to get in there. To each his own though when it comes to BBQ. Some people will prefer one over another, so there really isn't any way that I can say Gates or Bryant's is better than such and such BBQ joint, as I may have alluded to before. I think people will sometimes wonder why KC is home to the nation's best BBQ if they come here and try Gates and find that they prefer something back home in Little Rock, Memphis, Indy, or Cincy (random cities). Every city has a kick-ass BBQ restaurant that they can brag about. The thing I should emphasize about KC that might not be understood is that it is the king of the BBQ world simply due to the sheer NUMBER of QUALITY BBQ restaurants that are here. I'm not sure of the exact number, but we have something on the order of 80 different BBQ joints in the metro. And they ALL are good at what they do. That's what separates KC from the rest of the pack. I have yet to eat at a KC BBQ place that I didn't like. Each time I try a new one, it becomes my favorite. It definitely makes it hard to decide where to get the next BBQ fix in town. I guess that's a good problem to have though. And if a BBQ restaurant isn't up to par, it won't last. Kansas Citians have too many options to waste their time with sub-standard BBQ.

The same approach should be taken towards steaks as well. The chances that you'll get the BEST steak you've ever had in KC is probably 50/50. I once met a man from NYC who talked about having a steak in KC and not being as impressed as he thought he would be. Well, again, it's not about having the best steaks day in day out. It's about having a large number of QUALITY steak restaurants or places that serve steak.

I got kinda off on a tangent there about KC cuisine, but it's probably something that should be mentioned to out of towners.

And DMRyan, yeah I was kinda hoping for a hometown place like KC Masterpiece to set up shop in the P&L, but I can't be mad I guess about Famous Dave's. If they provide a good product for visitors, then that's all that matters. People will come away from KC saying they had some good BBQ at Famous Dave's, even if they can get the same stuff in every other state. I wouldn't worry about it taking business away from Gates and Bryant's, and the numerous other BBQ places in KC, because there will always be the loyal KC customers who will keep going back for more, like myself. We love us some BBQ in Kansas City!

The Sprint Center Arena. It will be home....HOPEFULLY....to an NHL or NBA team soon. It will seat about 18,500 and it will replace Kemper Arena, which was built about 30 years ago. It's supposed to be one of, if not the, most state of the art arena of its kind in the world.

My favorite has always been Arthur Bryant's. The original, not the subpar one in the casino.

It's a dirty, inconvienent place to eat, the fries suck, the sandwiches come with nothing more than cheap white bread---> but I've laid awake at night dreaming and drooling about Arthur Bryant's BBQ! It's that good.

There used to be a place called Marty's up on Antioch that one of my favorites too. I love how KC has a culinary scene they have left their mark on, it really adds character to the place.

What will it do, other than feature trend-setting design?

Famous Daves is a restaurant chain from the Northwoods of Wisconsin as far away as you can get from the stockyards and Southern styled cooking.
I guess as someone passing through town I would hunt down the real KC.

It'll wipe your ass and give you a blow job while you take a dump. Actually, I don't know what all the bells and whistles will be. It will be interesting to find out.

Wait, the city doesn't have a team lined up to occupy the arena? What?

Well c'mon they're a lot more spontaneous the deeper you go in the Plains states! Hell up in Milwaukee we can't get a new arena built even if we had a team lined up and it would be willing to pay 1/3 of the cost!!
