We're working on it pretty hard right now. KC has been courting the Penguins for a while now. It's actually been in the news quite a bit as of late, especially in Pitt and KC. Word is, is that the NHL will either get an arena deal done it Pitt soon (has to be within next 3 weeks or the Pens are coming to KC) or the Pens will move to KC and Pitt will get an expansion NHL team for 08/09 season. Either way, it looks like if KC doesn't get an NBA team, it will be getting an NHL team by the 08/09 season. Don't worry, that arena won't sit empty for long, especially with the red carpet deal that AEG (operator of Sprint Center) is willing to give to a tenant.

There used to be a place called Marty's up on Antioch that one of my favorites too. I love how KC has a culinary scene they have left their mark on, it really adds character to the place.
FINALLY, someone is making some sense!! Arthur Bryant's is the best BBQ in the world. Hands down. Anyone else must have just had a tongue scraping for their taste buds were rendered useless.

OK, my opinion, but so true!

Oh, and kcmetro, I got in a fight with my friend that works at Nara. He was like "Dude, the Penguins are coming to KC! It's confirmed!" And I go "Uhh, I knew that Wayne was talking to the owners of the Sprint Arena about possibly playing there, but I don't think that it is written in stone." We just went back and forth, with his blind pride for the NHL coming through (which is funny cause he is from Omaha).

Ahhh, it feels good to be back on SSC. After being gone for a month, I finally started my new job and got my laptop this morning. See you all more often!

Welcome back Absolut. We missed ya.

Yeah, when you talk to the avg. Joe in KC, they'll either have no clue about the Pens talks with KC or they'll think it's a done deal, just because of rumors. Most people don't keep up with it so they're usually out of the loop about the specifics.

And yes, Arthur Bryant's is the best in town! Gates used to be my favorite, then it was Jones BBQ in KCK, now it's Bryant's. I love their sweet sauce. But that's just my humble opinion as well.

Well hopefully KC will get a pro team to occupy that beautiful arena.. from the sounds of it, I don't think that reality is too far off. When I made the original comment expressing surprise with regard to KC not having a team to occupy the arena I didn't really mean it in the sense of - wow, that's stupid... I meant it more in the sense of - wow, I can't believe KC has the wherewithal and vision to build something like that without a concrete promise that it'll be used by a pro sports team.

Kudos to you, KC. Sounds like your city leaders definitely have their heads in the right place.

On another note, do you guys have any opinion about the hostile takeover bid of Midwest Airlines from AirTran? The debate is raging in the Milwaukee thread over it...

I agree completely Mark. I thought that this would sit vacant without the promise of some sports team, whether it be NHL, NBA, or anything else. But damn the Sprint Arena looks unbelievable. I think they will get an NHL team, only because the Penguins could play there freaking rent free for a couple years! Something like that is unheard of in the business.

I don't know much about it or have much of an opinion, but here is a link to some discussion about it on the KC site....

Speaking of BBQ in KC, here's a link that tells a lot, and has other links at the bottom about KC BBQ.

Hopefully one day all those surface lots surrounding the arena will be replaced with condos or office buildings.

Maybe during halftime you might be inclined to upgrade your phone, or switch plans

Oh ok. I thought you meant grocery store. Actually there will be a sprint store across the street in the P&L (as well as a grocery store).

A Pens move to KC is looking even more promising now. I'll make sure to update this if I hear anything new. There's continuous chatter about it over on the KC site as well.

kcmetro, PLEASE keep me updated on this....As I said, I got in an argument with my friend about the Guins coming to KC...do you think its gonna happen???

Honestly, I would love an NHL team instead of an NBA team.

Just another rivalry between KC and STL if it was hockey! I love it.

The Sprint Arena is ******* awesome!

That picture of the Sprint Center is awesome. It looks like its coming along nice. I just read a couple hours ago on the Joplin Globe website that a Legoland could be built in Kansas City. Does anyone know if thats true or not?
