states, kiwi: 10.30pm, -18C outside, snow on the ground, watching sunbathed cricket live from new zealand. funny how things work out.

the blackcaps have done pretty well here. let's hope england's batsmen don't ruin a potentially gripping game by pissing their little pants (again).

There is a little dribble already. The seventh runout in two and a bit games.

Lets hope they have a spine today...

It's kinda strange watching a Summer game in the middle of the night with snow outside eh? That will be the scenario for me too when England host the Blackcaps in June.

Anyway, the covers are coming off.

Game on.

it'll be interesting to see whether we bottle it after the rain break (seems to be a recurring theme, that).

what took you over to new zealand, KB, and if i'm planning a holiday (possibly 2009), where do you recommend?

14 dot balls followed by a wicket. Here we go again.

Back to your question. We have two small kids, plus my wife lived here for 6 years when she was young. So moving to NZ was a lifestyle thing. Our house looks onto the beach and South Pacific ocean. Another good reason to move here.

As for a holiday destination, you can't go wrong with either island. Although I'd say the South is much more dramatic with it's landscapes. Plus the North Island is full of JAFA's! My advice, is hold on til 2011 and come for the RWC if you like the egg shaped game. I think it's due to be held in October which is Spring time here, so the weather should be goodish.

The kit looks to British and we are not part of that fictional nation called Britain this has what to do with England.
They should go out and play in red/white.

There's a reason ODI kits aren't white, but I'll let you work it out for yourself.

Relating to the kit, i think all Blue is good. Its tradition now anyways that it is blue and red. Like australia will be yellow/gold and Pakistan, green.

There's a good reason for using a white ball - do you want to have a think about that one too?

Yes, but baseball doesn't have an LBW law, which is the reason a batsman's clothing should be a substantially different colour to the ball. I think it's more of an ICC ruling rather than one of the Laws of Cricket though...

Oh, and by the way, the colour of England's one-day kit comes from the ECB's logo:

I think some people are assuming there should be a direct link to the colours of St. George's flag, but there's no reason why this should be the case, especially when you look at other countries:

Australia: Gold (flag mainly blue)
India: Blue (flag orange/white/green)
Netherlands: Orange (flag red/white/blue)
New Zealand: Black (flag mainly blue)
South Africa: Green (flag has six colours)

This extends to other sports too, e.g. soccer:

Germany: White (flag black/red/gold)
Italy: Blue (flag green/white/red)

Ahhh, good point!

I guess the only way around that would be if England played in all white, and maybe had red pads. Thinking about it though, that sound disgusting. I'm with you Charlie, stick to the blue!
