#083 l Tower Palace Three l SEOUL l 264m l 69fl
Tower Palace Three
Seoul, South Korea HEIGHT: 264m/865 feet FLOORS: 69 floors COMPLETION: 2003 ARCHITECT: Skidmore Owings & Merril (SOM) Tower Palace is intended to promote a new standard of high-rise living for the people of Seoul. The tower's design and image is derived from natural forms and influences which integrate state-of-the-art building technology to provide a landmark for the city of Seoul and the people of Korea." The project will include a large southern park for the residents, a sports club, a gallery, a banquet room, a business center, restaurants, retail shops and a sky garden. The tower's form is intended to add a truly unique shape to the skyline. This form is characterized by a series of radiating planes, which will provide a dynamic and ever-changing appearance as the sun moves across the faces. These planes provide a strong sense of verticality to the tower and allow for the discreet movement of air through the units. The tower will be clad in a light blue-green tinted high performance glass to allow for maximized light transmission and bright views with metallic panels to provide sparkle to the solid surfaces. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Doh! I was just writing a reply about this being the new World's Tallest all residential tower, and I see that is the first thing you wrote!
I like the shape of it in plan, and how it resembles a leafy form. It's quite bland in a way, but so are other supertall resdiential towers. Too bad that there aren't open air balconies! 8.0/10 |

8/10...I don't like the green color, but the building looks fairly good for a residential tower. It doesn't look that great from a distance though.

this tower looks so aerodynamic with its 3 wings.... and it is a residential tower!! a little hometown bias coming into play makes it a 10/10.

7.5/10 -
The veritcal "pleats" are this tower's most striking feature; they must provide plenty of opportunity for contrast between light and shadow, and thus make the shape more interesting. The facade, however, is a bit bland; I like the color, but it doesn't seem to dance with the light that well, and it needs something in it to provide a bit more constrast, somehow - though the wider mullions at the edges of the "pleats" do emphasize the height... I also wonder if the sense of height might have been further improved by a few horizontal setbacks running around the tower, especially near the top...
