Amazing entrances on Moscow.

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.

Excellent thread. Kudos to Paris, I think they have the most beautiful and diverse entrances. London's are generally very conservative in comparison, although there are some beautiful modernist entrances built in the 1930's... very ahead of their time.

Chiswick Park

Hanger Lane

Oakwood

Tooting Broadway

Boston Manor

Other styles...

Metropolitan District Railway, Gloucester Road (1870's)

Typical Yerkes station, Caledonian Road (Mid-1900's)

One of my favourites (yes I'm biased!)... Arsenal

I love the way it just appears in a terraced Highbury street

All photos pinched from here... I hope they work?

Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Waterlooplein Station

The entrance of Waterlooplein station in Amsterdam, one of the five underground stations on the 'Oostlijn' ('East Line'), the first line of the metro in Amsterdam. It is hidden in a narrow alley in a corner of the 'Stopera', the huge City Hall / Opera building.

The same entrance, now looking upwards. The dirty and deteriorated station has been refurbished last year, but I'm disappointed about the result. The original plans, for reconstructing the whole station were too expensive, so instead, they only did some painting, some tilework and some replacing of the lighting now.

Amsterdam, Gaasperplas Station

A typical entrance for the surface stations of the 'Oostlijn' of the Amsterdam metro. It is situated between the elevated tracks and is equipped with a staircase, an elevator and an escalator to the island platform.

The same entrance, but now looking upwards.
