Toronto's subway was built slightly too late for any nice art deco entrances, and hasn't had enough updates for any interesting modern designs, so its rather plain.

Downtown stations are usually just steps underground.

In other areas they are often hidden in buildings (right under the brown slab here)

Often they're also little bunker type things.

I've gone many times in Barcelona and I've never been this entrance. It's very beautiful! It remembers me the old Madrid's metro entrance.

It is in the city centre: Bruc street, 350 metres from Plaça Catalunya, it is a very old entrance.

Is it just me or is there something a bit weird about this picture?

Crazy photo. Seems that not only the guy in the foreground is doubled but also the two(?) people walking up the stairs.

This is my fav. metro entrance! I saw them in Paris, Lisbon and in Montreal! Who is the real owner and why do so many cities have such an entrance?

In Hong Kong they have the monsoons and typhoons, so when it rains it really rains hard and in case theres flood the water won't go in. The other reason is safety, some people might push carts around either cargo or food you don't want them accidentally crash all the way down and kill people.

wow i like the grass roof on that, little bit brutal on the side though - contrasts quite nicely however

health and safety would have a fit if that was constructed in the UK however

Oh I've been there many, many times. Good old days, I really loved the voice of that lady in the Barcelona metro.

Proxima station... Lyceu.
