Sudheesh Nair's Cochin photos

Will start from 'Goshree bridges' from Marine Drive to Vypeen. Not a good time to shoot pics because you can't predict when it rains in Kerala. The sky was overcast with little light..

Photos taken with my mobile cam Sony Ericsson K750i. As usual, most photos are from a moving car.

Starting from Marine Drive, Abad Marine Plaza apartments is seen u/c.

After 'Purva Grandbay' site, the first of three bridges is seen.

And now it is raining heavily

It is an irony kronik, potable water is a problem in cochin, especially in Vypeen. It is like water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink..These pipes are for water connection to the Vypeen islands.

This link connecting the islands, bolgatty, vallarpadam and finally vypeen was opened recently. Now water pipes from the mainland are being laid to the vypeen islands. A little back, we had seen land being excavated for laying these pipes..

And you are seing Vallarpadam where the International container transhipment terminal by DPI would be coming, on the right hand side of the pipes...

Sudeesh,
Great Pics of cochin with monsoon bearing down on the town.
Strange to note that Potable water is still a problem in Cochin. I was aware of the problem from few of our friends.
Is this the same Vypeen island where the liquor tragedy happened few decades back.

Ya, zailsingh, it is the same Vypeen island..

BTW, let us return to marine drive..

the road is a little bit slushy due to the mud from the nearby construction sites..

Rain is not a good time to shoot, it is noon, but very little light..

Skyline Peevees Triton is the first building on the right.

Federal Towers joins Peevees Triton.

is this also Marine drive? it looks too small and shabby to be Kochi's most famous road..

Marine drive has some nice buildings, but as a road, it doesn't seem as impressive.. maybe as you said it'll clear up when construction work is done..

nice pics btw..

Ya Prakash, this is Marine Drive..But only in this shot, the road is two lane, you have seen in other photos it is a divided carriageway with a central median. This is a new two lane culvert which was constructed across the canal linking the backwaters with the market. The old culvert is now pulled down and a new one being constructed at its place..

Marine Drive under present conditions is just another road. Perhaps the GCDA has to take initiatives to beautify it.

More of MG Road

We are reaching the end of M G Road. The signage shows to the left Highcourt and to the right NH 47, 4 kms ahead.

Nice to see Cochin roads are as crappy as ever I despair for the state of the roads in my hometown. The city is sitting on piles of gulf money but the road infrastructure is unchanged from 15 years ago.
