As for McCabe he will still have a role within the club, although this has not yet been announced. |

Just to join in on this discussion.
Mandaric has built up quite considerable debts at Leicester, the new owners have taken this on. I think some owls are getting a little ahead of their station, it's good news for the fans but the structure of the club needs to be changed to become solvent again, this is before sorting out issue's on field. (Though Mandaric will probably just go ahead and sort out on field, he isn't good at keeping an eye on debts) They also need to get out of that division too before they get into the Premiership, which like any division it's like any other. Brighton, Charlton, Huddersfield and Southampton are good teams this season. As for United, we are a different setup completely to Wednesday. Just like Man Utd with debts of 100's of millions are again a different beast to both clubs. We aren't just a football club, we have different business' and investments too. The hotel was one of them, which has now or is to be sold to Scarborough holdings. An 18m loss was recorded last year but we are yet to see the full reports and to quote 67m is a tad imaginative. It could be that amount but we just don't know. It's true though that we will have a tight budget for players over the next few years. As for McCabe, he still owns the club, he's just not the chairman but is still PLC chairman, it's actually a good idea for him not to be club chairman when he's not here all the time.... |

Someone has pointed out the anagrams you can get from Milan Mandaric on one of the Sheff Utd forums.
Damn - A Criminal Manic Damn Liar Maniac Mandril Adman Criminal ....to name but a few. All of which I find are as equally amusing as they are a fair description.

Clutching at straws for what? It was only a light-hearted comment, in similar vein as to the infamous Neil Warnock anagram - Colin Wanker. Which some might argue is reflective of his persona also. There's no need to get so defensive about it.
You've still not answered anybody's question as to where you get £67m from... Last edited by jozblade; December 1st, 2010 at 03:44 PM. |

67m was what was being spouted by Keith Edwards. Probably the debt you owe to UBS bank + McCabe's Scarborough Holdings + the loss this year.

I don't understand how any United fan can rationalise the fact that in owing any sum between £35 - £67 million is a good thing. You are not big enough of a club to support this level of debt, that's the reason why you are trimming your wage bill and are looking for a rich sugar daddy.
Also your debts may be external in other companies but things can still go wrong. Hypothetically, what happens is Scarborough Holdings goes tits up and recalls all its loan notes at once? If I was a blade I wouldn't feel comfortable with that amount of debt, but I suppose theres not much the average fan can really do

I know this may sound stupid but we don't actually know what the level of debt is.
It could be 65m or it could have gone down since the previous reports. Selling the hotel and also Chengdu will recoup some monies too. The full reports are not fully released. Actually Scarborough holdings isn't the loan note holder anymore it's just McCabe as far as I'm aware, from his personal wealth. This has been part of the re-organisation to make it more safeguarded. Also to carry such a big debt isn't really about the size of the club, it's about how it's managed and what assets there are within the company. I think that's the reason that so far we have been able to carry it but obviously transfer budgets are now decreasing for us.... As you say though not much an average fan can do. Not unless he wins the Euro millions! |

My main concern for the club at the moment is it's position in the league. If we go down then it is time to start and seriously worry. Even if we stay up there needs to be more done in my opinion to attract fans to the games again as the gates have fallen by around 6k this season. But if their circumstances change, i.e. relegation from the prem, they would be in trouble. The same principle is applicable to United. That debt could become a problem for a unforeseen reason and could cripple your club. Whether its Scarborough holdings or McCabe, if either come into finical difficulty this would be bad news for you. I might be wrong about this but when Southampton came into financial difficulties it was not the football club which was haemorrhaging money but it was its holding company ![]() The point is that I would not be so confident with regards to the handling the clubs debt. Debt is always a liability and with the sums mentioned it could be a very big problem for United if something was to go wrong. Just wish all clubs could be run more like WBA, who don't overspend and put the clubs future in jeopardy by taking out rediculous loans. |

England miss out on World Cup 2018, with Russia the winning bidder.
Qatar will get the 2022 World Cup. All this means that England will not see World Cup football again until at least 2030. here's how it was reported fairly recently in the Star, although Twitter has been lighting up with #england2018 and #worldcup2018 hashtags going mad since the announcement. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadli...medium=twitter

United's game against Reading has been called off due to the bad weather. A rarity - there can't have been many games in Sheffield called off in the past decade or 2 because of weather. I recall when I went to see us play Crewe 4 or 5 years ago it was close for a while...

Last year there were quite a few weeks of postponements, which caused the issues of playing weeks and weeks of Sat/Tues fixtures.
