Tanger was years neglected because Hassan II hated the city... Tanger was more then 50 years ago the number one tourist place in Morocco and was what Marrakech now is. But after Morocco became independent this was over.. |

article: After independence in 1956, the Moroccan authorities moved to close down Tangier's brothels, drug dens and gay bars, to the relief of conservative natives fed up with playing host to Europeans seeking an alternative lifestyle. Economic decline set in as the international banks with offshore operations relocated to Switzerland or Spain. When foreign owners of small businesses, cinemas, cafes and restaurants were told to take Moroccan business partners, thousands left, the gap they left in the economy filled partly by smugglers and cannabis barons. "Tangier became practically a town of outlaws who couldn't care less about culture," said R'Miki. "This was a nouveau riche that went straight from owning a donkey to a four-wheel-drive." article:
Over the next three decades, the city disintegrated into a shabby Third World port, all potholed streets and crumbling buildings, drug runners and gangsters—neglect due to the late King Hassan II's dislike of a town rumored to have hatched several unsuccessful plots against his autocratic rule. http://www.travelandleisure.com/arti...ccos-st-tropez |

I’m sorry guys the pictures #26 is not of the construction site of Tanger city center, it is of miraflores towers, the Tanger City center construction is already in it’s beginning and it is showen in the picture by the little building in construction behind the yellow one (called Burj Tanger).
Just for information the construction will be ended in May 2009. |

Just picked up some info on this from Fadesa today.
Due for launch in 2008 (probably delayed due to Expo 2012 decision). Looks very impressive, probably the premium investment opportunity in Tangiers. |

I think it will be kinda cool in 2014 when you get off the TGV from Casa at the Tanger-Ville train station (which I think is very pretty) and have this complex surround you. Will definitly give a good first impression of Tanger!

That's a really cool idea! Though the TGV itself in Morocco stays a little bit strange for me..I was wondering how many platforms Tanger-Ville Trainstation has exactly? And if that's enough to handle all traffic in the near future, the TGV included? |

I think either 2 or 4. But It should be enough. Since tangier in itself is the end of the northern line, you can't expect Trains every 5 minutes, so I believe it could well cope with demand growth over the next 5-10 years
