Traditional East Asian Architecture

Let this be the thread where we can discuss the architectural styles/aspects of Vietnam, Japan, Korea and China. Let's compare and contrast and note the outstanding aspects of each of the sub-branch architectural style.

Chinese architecture style changes from dynasty to dynasty, some of the more famous styles are from Han, Tang, Song and Ming/Qing dynasties.

Is this also true for Japan, Korea and Vietnam?

The ruling class of Qing dynasty was Manchu, although they were in the minority. Although they enforced several Manchu rules on the Han population such as their wacky haircut, in general the Manchu were eventually Hanized in order to rule China more efficiently.

But as far as architecture goes, Manchus were originally nomads so they didn't really have their own architecture style to speak of. Qing dynasty architecture was extremely similar, if not identical, to Ming dynasty (the dynasty right before Qing) architecture.

You wouldn't think so if your ancestors were FORCED to have that haircut as a symbol of oppression on your people.

Guys, if you tell me how to post a picture I will show you an example of how buidlings should be built in Vietnam that would have a traditional east asian architecture element in it.

First you need to upload your pictures to a host like http://www.imageshack.us/. Then you copy the link and post it here with the IMG tag.

Cheers Pengus.

I don't know if any of you have seen this but this is the five star hotel in Hue I just read about in the news. I think all highrises in Vietnam that have classical architecture elements in it should be built like this. This building is a proof of an obvious thing that buildings don't have to look european (like that bloody manor in hanoi) to look nice. Lets keep Vietnam look like an asian country.[IMG][/IMG]

I wholly agree!

Although that building certainly isn't the first to blend traditional Asian architecture with modern architecture, but it sure did a good job!

P.S) This is my first post in Vietnam section! Hello nice to meet you all

Yes it's the Yuan Shan Hotel, or simply known as "Grand Hotel" in English

My day job is honestly none of your business

People are banned for good reasons. Skyscrapercity.com is actually quite tolerable against flamers and trolls compare to many other forums. I personally don't have any power to ban flamers and trolls, all I do is report them and the higher mods make the decision to ban them.

If you don't break the rules and start trouble, there is no reason for anyone to ban you.

I sleep quite well at night thank you.
