Minh Khai and Le Quy Don already switched. IT's not the "Commies", most parents approved of it. Monday for ao dai and the rest of the week is the typical uniform.

Vietnamese women and girls can wear anything they want to, but it's all in the same cycle. In the 80s-90s, there were barely any Japanese girls wearing kimono during new year or matsuri, but now you see a lot more. As the country gets richer and exposed more to western ideals, people start appreciating their own culture more. |

Miss Saigon was a STUPID show! I hate cheap exploitive movies like that. That's what usually happens when the writers and artists are non-Viets, it is written from their own shallow point of view! That's why it is important to create a media industry to encompass film, tv, radio, etc. for Vietnamese inside and outside of VN. This is not going to happen because Hanoi is still too paranoid to allow any kind of artistic freedom for its people.
A person can usually tell how genuine or true to life the art form is when it is written from the artist's (Viet) point of view. NO MORE MISS SAIGON!! |

I thought we were discussing the beauty of Viet girls with ao dai!!! I'm sure someone has better perspective about Viet girls with ao dai... and I'm not going there. Anyway, just for a point of reference, I was on my way home from work and stopped at an intersection with a local college students crossing the street in front of my car. I purposely counted the number of young ladies. It was a total of six ladies, 4 of them are way overweight, the other 2 are OK. I thought to myself, geez..., these 4 ladies in no way would fit in a beatiful ao dai. While I was in VN, I stood in front of LQD and counted how many beautiful Viet girls in ao dai crossing the street. No doubt, the Viet girls were born to wear ao dai ![]() --Capee |

the fact is.......good girls don't associate with white foreign men during the war time period. be seen on the street with an american man was considered a humiliation to the family
those Vietnamese girls you saw in american movies......they were poor poor orphans...or from the countryside, came to the city for money. but people who don't know Vietnam......they think that's the portrait of the Vietnamese girls when the american came...they think vietnamese girls is cheap.....and if you';re vietnamese and you think that way and call your vietnamese girls "whore" this "whore" that.........think about your mother....your aunts.....grandmothers.....sisters. and the fact is all those kids who are school principals in VN........you don't make it that far if you're not in the party......or have a history attached to the party....so all those school's principals and people in the education ministry ......they're all commies. the awkward thing is.....they talked so much about keeping the vietnamese tradition alive....yet they abandoned ao-dai for the western skirt that have been used widely in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.... and during graduation they made ya wear this graduation robe with the tassle hat.....came straight from America and Oxford ...contradicting ain't it?
