Why do the buildings paint get so distorted?

Maybe they use some cheap paint, we have that problem in Morocco too.

It's not always paint. A lot of the buildings use tile, and a few fall off now and then so the facade looks disconnected.

Does the paint also get distorted because of the salt in the air, especially around monsoon season, or the humidity? I like these pictures, it shows the variety of HK rather than just the showpieces.

I think it's more the humidity. HK is humid

Ahh I see, yea the humdity could play a huge roll on the reason why the paint and tile becomes so distorted.

i love these buildings hk is full of contrasts i love it when you ten minutes from central feel like you are in some highrise version of Medan os somthing

Take the good with the bad.

Anyway some of the bad above aint that bad. I agree some look horrid but Hk is a city of contrasts as is any large city.

These buildings are everywhere especially in HK Island, Kowloon and some part of The New Territories

Paint actually lasts longer and better than tiled buildings, which is probably why a lot of the public housing estates use paint. It's easy to wash and maintain, so the colours actually stay. However, many of the older buildings from the 1980s and before are tiled.

Yeah, lots of ugly, but large cities like Hong Kong can afford to take those hits, there's so much more going on to distract you from looking at all the ugly mixed in with the good.
