Computerised vehicle number plates from 11th

09.09.06
LAHORE: The Excise &Taxation Department will start issuing computerized number plates for vehicles in Lahore from September 11.

Officials of the E&T Department told The Post on Wednesday that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will inaugurate the new computerized number plates at Director General Excise and Taxation office on September 11. "All arrangements have been made in the motor registration office at Farid Kot House to where over 30 counters have been established for the purpose," they said.

The Excise Department has already issued 797,000 number plates. These number plates have security features and cannot be replicated, they added. Regarding the procedure for getting computerized number plates, they said that the vehicle owners would submit their registration papers on the specific counters where data entries would also be made.

The owners of the vehicles, after a specific period, would get number plates, registration books and original documents at their given address, they added. E&T sources said that the Chief Secretary held meetings with the Provincial Secretary Excise and Taxation, Secretary Information Technology, Special Secretary Finance, Chairman PITB, head of PMU and representatives of other concerned departments and warned representatives of the E&T Department to make the process fully transparent.

He directed Secretary Excise and Taxation to make arrangements within the offices for completion of registration documents instead of agents sitting outside the office which save the applicants from many problems. "A German firm has also been engaged for technical assistance," they said.

The department sources also said that under the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, it had also been decided to launch the same scheme throughout the province by the end of June 2007 and necessary arrangements were in the pipeline in all motor registration offices in the province.

They also said that the new Secretary E&T has called for the use of modern technology and research methods in examining different aspects of the commission of crime so that an effective strategy could be evolved to reduce the crime ratio in the province.

Meanwhile, Information Technology, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Excise Minister Dr Shafiq Ahmed Chaudhry jointly held a meeting to review the arrangements to launch Motor Transport Management Information System (MTMIS) to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Punjab Ch Pervaiz Elahi on September 11 in Lahore. According to the details, Information Technology Department has prepared a comprehensive computerization plan according to which new number plates of vehicles would be issued by the.Motor Registration Authority Lahore in the first phase and in more five districts, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sargodha Sialkot and Gujranwala by June 2007. By December 2007 all the districts of Punjab would be issuing computerized number plates.

well you dnt need no advertisments for a car that gets sold out, plus revo got advertisment for free by coming in the news, coming on the front pages and being labeled pakistans first car. even pakis in london knew about it so im sure everyone in pakistan must have knew about it.

Adam motors is doing quite well but their vehicle needs to look into aesthetics.

what i am saying is reality m8, i am living in London not you, even many indians know about it here, the car made news.

you are comparing an a company established many many decades ago which has made 1000s of different cars with a completly new company which has only made 1 car, its like comparing an apple with an orange, and makes no sense at all.

toyota has the money to play around with promotions, revo doesnt.

revos are mainly aimed at middle and low class and would be found in such areas, the amount of vehicles which were made by adam motors where really low and like i said they got free advertisments in the news, that is the best possible advertisment any company can wish to have.

This 'pakboy' guy is funny! he thinks this car is meant for 'middle and low class' !!!
how can a low class family in Pakistan dish out 400,000rs for a car?
Lower class WALKS or rides a 'khota rehri' mate! and the middle class rides a Honda CD 70

^ Not true at all, it is just a matter of how they present themselves.

Banks have made it much easier for even a Low-income citizen to lease out a car, and I have seen quite a few of them leasing out Suzuki Mehrans, since that was the cheapest car in Pakistan a few years back.

It is a bit difficult to say what class your talking about, because quite frankly there can never be a car so cheap for a person who has no education and who works in a cheap (money wise) work place.

Dont take that too personal!!!
you might be living in london but the Revo is being sold here in pakistan.

However, what i meant is that it is unfortunate that such a brilliant car doesnt have enough marketing. Adam motors are new to cars, and they donot have the financial capabilities to make a huge impact. Besides one of the disadvantages as compared to say dewan farooq, is that they dont have a big spare parts supplier base. these things count a lot.

for example , daewoo has the same problem, which lead them to open daewoo service centers in big cities. Unfortunately adam motors cannot afford that.

We dont have partnership culture here in pak. If this car had been made by a partnership of big names like DF, Indus motos i m sure the Revo would have got a better boast.

Its a fact , even as you mentioned, that adam motors isnt that big a company to spend much. And btw, appearing one time in news is no substitute for ads.

However, i have a firm belief that with time and the dedication of Mr. Feroze, adam motors will succeed in becoming market leaders. They prolly also need to enter into partnership with others, for assemblling their cars too. this will give them market penetration as well as financial stability.

I am sure people working for adam motors are more experienced than i am, but it seems that these things havent worked for them yet.

you are living in the past, like fahad pointed out banks are giving out loans these days, there was a time when streets in small citys like TTS, gojra, jhang where full of motorbikes and cycles but now they have been replaced with cars.

so if i am funny you must be funnier.

well you are repeating the same things in each post about marketing,

you maybe right that appearing in news one time is no subsititute for ads, but they made there presence felt in it, they obviously are very very new in the car market and operating in a country where there is very low competition and i dnt see them making any ads any time soon either.

there has been an ad in the sunday papers about "Proton", a malaysian made car. It says the cars are available in the showrooms. There are 4 models that have been introduced. Anyone with more info? or with a copy of the ad?

i dont know about the quality of the car, but from the models i have seen, it is bound to fail.Except may be the GEN 2, only if the quality is good.

Good heavens! i cant understand how big experienced companies come up with foolish plans to introduce ugly motors that even laymen would know , that they are bound to fail. Looks like it is gonna be a repitition of the FIAT UNO story.

anyway, here's the proton GEN 2 model.

Pictures of GEN.2, Proton's totally brand new model
GEN.2 is powered by Proton's own engine, the Campro, which clocks 10.5 seconds from 0-100 kmph and delivers 5.8 litre of petrol per 100 km at a constant speed of 90 kmph.
