Lebanese Jews

so with all the BS going on right now and with idiotic morons tagging it as a religious war, I decided to add a lil bit of info on the Lebanese Jewish community. Let me add that this is a history/culture based thread and not a religious on ... any religiously-offensive comments made will result in me asking the mods myself to delete this thread .. and please don't make me do that cuz there's not much info out there about this topic and im interested in what people have to add to it (insight, unoffensive opinions, more articles, etc)

The Magen Abraham Synagogue once catered to thousands of Lebanese Jews in Beirut (usually concentrated in Wadi Abu Jmil). After the war, the Jewish population left Lebanon (along with a few million others) and the synagogue has since then been largely forgotten. Other synanagogues face the same fate since the remaining Jewish community does not push for their renovations.

here are a few pix I've stolen

* The black and White photos aren't as old as they look ... They're all from the 1970's and 1980's respectively

A blog about the Lebanese Jewish Community from which I got the pix and articles (started in June of 06 weeks before the war broke out .. ironically enough) http://thejewsoflebanon.org/me/index.php

An article about the history of Jewish-Shia relations in Lebanon: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/748013.html

A church is fine too. Well it depends on the surrounding community. If it's Muslim, then convert it to a mosque; if it's christian then conert it to a church.

are you people serious? i mean converting churches to mosques and vice-versa is a thing done by religious fanatics and it's a stone-age thing to do, if it's a synagogue why not just let it stay that way? It's a historic thing of value (whatever religion it belongs to) and it should be kept that way to show the diversity of cultures and religions Lebanon has had throughout its history.

There is an article in Yediot-Achronot today (Friday) about the Lebanese Jewish community, It says that there are 40 Jews left today in Lebanon.
It also says that the Magen Abraham Synagogue was supposed to be renovated by Rafiq el-Hariri, but the plan never came into fruition.

My old boss is from Lebanon and I remember him saying there only a few dozens left.

Any way, it's still better then Afganistan that has exactly two jews left.

Read this,
http://www.geocities.com/savepalesti...es/sgil3o.html

and read this part in particular,
Quote:
Here is a list of a few examples of Israeli forces or workers or businessmen desecrating their village Mosques during or following the 1948 fighting.

'Akbara Mosque destroyed during fighting
al-Lydd Mosque was site of Israeli massacre of aproximately 176 Palestinian civilians
Zarnuqu Mosque converted to a Synagogue
Khulda's Mosque converted into a Museum
al-Manshiyya Mosque turned into a private Israeli home
Wadi Hunayn Mosque converted to a Synagogue
'Ayn Hawd Mosque converted into a Israeli tourist restaurant/bar
Qisarya Mosque converted into a bar
Kawfakha Mosque converted into a stable and storehouse for animal fodder for Israeli farmers
Sa'sa' Mosque demolished by Israeli workers after fighting ended

After the Israelis demolished or turned the Muslims' mosques into homes, musemes, bars and stables, what should the Lebanese do in return?

Those are the zionists. Remember, not all the jews are zionists. From what I've read also, the Lebanese jews opposed the zionist state.

When revenge consumes you, you already are beyond human dignity.

We should all always try to do the right thing, regardless of what others might have done.
