Another fact of Florida does get cold, below is abstracted from wikipedia of florida climate (note: eventhough rare, Florida does have snow):
"Snow is a rare occurrence in Florida. During the Great Blizzard of 1899, Florida experienced blizzard conditions for possibly the first time since explorers had arrived. During that time, the Tampa Bay Area had "gulf-effect" snow, similar to lake-effect snow. The Great Blizzard of 1899 is the only time the temperature in the state is known to have fallen below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (−18°C). The most widespread snowfall in Florida history happened in February 1978, when snow fell over much of the state in different times of the month, as far south as Homestead. Snow flurries fell on Miami Beach for the only time in recorded history. 1982's "Cold Sunday," which saw freezing conditions throughout much of the country, ruined that year's orange crops. In 1989, a severe hard freeze created lots of ice and also caused minor flurries in sections of the state and resulted in rolling blackouts from power failures caused by massive demands on the power grid for heating. A hard freeze in 2003 brought "ocean-effect" snow flurries to the Atlantic coast as far south as Cape Canaveral." |

Unlike places with 4 seasons or cold season, Malaysia is hot throughout the year... water theme park is perfectly well, but think about a Disney theme park... of course I like the idea... but I can't imagine I can stand the heat... I went to Movie World and Dream World in Gold Coast, I was not sweating at all even running around like a 5 year old kid However, I don't think Cameroon is a good place too... most visitors go to Cameroon is because of its natural beauty. We wouldn't want to add kids' scream, noise from the roller-coaster, or the sound from the anti-gravity jump mechine to the quiet and sound of the nature. Also, I think those environmentalist will strongly against the idea of Disney in cameroon too. This is something I prefer personally...

UEM World Q1 net profit hits RM100m
By Ooi Tee Ching June 1 2006 BusinessTimes ![]() The 12-fold profit surge was mainly due to land sales and better contribution from associate company Costain CONGLOMERATE UEM World Bhd said its first quarter net profit surged 12-fold to RM100.28 million mainly due to land sales and better contribution from associate company Costain plc. Its revenue more than doubled to RM1.19 billion, helped by the sale of 363ha of land by the property division, which offset lower revenue from project management and construction projects. “Generally, performance in all divisions met expectations. We’re seeing turnaround positions for construction and manufacturing,” UEM World’s managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Pardas Senin said. He expects the group to continue making money for the rest of the year. The state-owned group plunged into a loss last year after it had to set aside money to cover potential losses from construction jobs abroad. Pardas said UEM World is on track to grow revenue by 36 per cent and achieve a return-on-equity of 12 per cent by the end of the year, its key performance targets announced in March. UEM World shares have also gained favour with investors. The stock has surged five-fold this year. It was last traded at RM1.76 yesterday before trading was suspended in the afternoon session. “We feel encouraged that we’re back on the radar screen of analysts and that UEM World’s share price has risen. I guess we’ve come out of our hibernation,” he said. Pardas said that UEM World has already allocated some land in Johor for leisure development. The firm would continue to woo theme park operators like Walt Disney and Universal Studios. “We’re only at the exploratory stage. We’ve not gone far into details. We’ll continue to woo theme park operators. “In developing Nusajaya as the new administrative centre for Johor, one of the components to catalyse development is leisure development and we’ve allocated 2,400 acres for that,” he said.

I told that impossible.....
Disney says has no plans for M'sian park
31 May 2006 3:18 PM THEEDGAEDAILY Walt Disney Co on May 30 said it has no plans to build a theme park in Malaysia -- even though government officials in that country said they had been in talks to develop one. "We are constantly exploring opportunities around the world as we look to grow our parks and resorts business. At this time, however, there are no existing discussions in Malaysia and we currently have no plans for a Disney-branded resort development in that country," said Lisa Haines, a spokeswoman for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Malaysian government officials said they are in talks to set up a Disney theme park in southern Johor state, as it battles neighbour Singapore to become a major tourist hub. Government officials have held talks with executives from Oriental Land Co Ltd, the Japanese company that operates Tokyo Disneyland, to run a similar park in Malaysia, The Edge financial weekly reported over the weekend, citing sources. But Disney said it has held no such talks. "Oriental Land Company, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort as our licensee, is a valued partner; however, they have no role in evaluating or negotiating other opportunities for Disney outside of Japan," Haines said. Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Effendi Norwawi told reporters on May 30 the country was exploring all options to make the southern corridor an attractive region. "So it will include theme parks and other attractions, so we are hoping to get Disney; but we are discussing with several other parties to see which is the most realisable option," he said. "Yes, we have been in discussions with Tokyo and also with Disney in the US," he added, without giving further details. Japan's Oriental Land said it had done some research in Johor on a possible leisure business but said the project was not related to Disney. "We are only a Disney licensee. We have no rights to set up a Disney park nor provide advice on its operations," said an Oriental Land spokesman. The Japanese company late last year did research to see if a leisure business was possible on request from the Malaysian government, he said. No decision has been made following the research, he added. The Japanese company has conducted such research in several countries in the past, he said. Malaysia is eager to develop Johor state, separated by a thin strip of water from Singapore -- which is itself chasing the tourist dollar by developing a casino industry. The theme park could occupy 800ha in Nusajaya, part of a 9,200ha township being developed by UEM World Bhd, The Edge said. Tokyo Disneyland is one of Asia's top tourist sites and, with the adjacent DisneySea, draws 25 million visitors a year. - Reuters

UEM still wants to pursue Disney talks
By Ashwin Raman, 31 May 2006 7:03 PM THEEDGEDAILY UEM World Bhd is still keen to engage Walt Disney to bring in a theme park to its Nusajaya development in Johor despite the US company's denial that it was interested to expand to Malaysia. However, UEM World said it was also in talks with other foreign theme park operators to set up such a venture in Nusajaya. Asked on a report on May 31 on Disney's denial, its managing director, Datuk Ahmad Pardas Senin said: “The efforts need to be continuously done as this is not something that can be achieved in a short space of time.” He said UEM World had initiated talks with several operators other than Disney as UEM World had allocated 2,400ha of its 9,200ha township in Nusajaya for leisure or theme park development. Prior to its suspension at 2.30pm on May 31, UEM World fell six sen to RM1.76 after Disney's denial that it was interested to set up a theme park in the country. It resumes trading on June 1. On May 30, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi Norwawi said the government was in talks with Oriental Land Co Ltd, who operates Tokyo Disneyland, and Disney in the US to bring in Disney. Reuters on May 31 quoted Walt Disney Parks and Resorts spokeswoman, Lisa Haines, as saying: “At this time, however, there are no existing discussions in Malaysia and we currently have no plans for a Disney-branded resort development in that country.” To another question, Ahmad Pardas said UEM World still hoped to bring in Disney or another theme park operator of the same magnitude. Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur at its quarterly results briefing, he added: “If a name like that (Disney) were to come here, it would be a crowd-puller for tourism.” Meanwhile, UEM World's net profit surged to RM100.28 million for the first quarter (1Q) ended March 31, 2006 from only RM8.11 million a year earlier as earnings were boosted by the property and manufacturing divisions. The other contributors were the consolidation of Pharmaniaga Bhd’s results with effect from August 2005, higher profit of a foreign associate and lower amortisation of actuarial loss on pension scheme. Revenue more than doubled to RM1.19 billion from RM560.7 million mainly from the sale of a 367ha land by the property division but was offset by the lower revenue from project management and construction projects. Earnings per share were 7.2 sen against 0.6 sen. On UEM World’s bid for the second Penang bridge, Ahmad Pardas said it had written to the government to be considered as it was the concession holder of the first Penang bridge and undertook the construction of the second link bridge between Johor Bahru and Singapore. He hoped it would be considered for transportation projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), including the expansion of light rail transit (LRT) and other railway commuter projects.

Florida's sub-tropical weather could be very cold. When I was there in year 2000 for a week, the coldest day was -7 degrees C (20 degrees F) and there were clear blue skies! We had to hunt for the sun!!! One of the days was -4 and the space shuttle launch for the ISS was delayed.....luckily did not make plans to Cape Carniveral for that ![]() The cold front Florida experienced during that year was the coldest in 30 years. It was a week before Christmas In Malaysia you could wait for a thousand years and you won't be getting anything below 10 degrees C. (maybe the highlands got lah)Here's the proof.......me standing in front of EPCOT during one of the 'better' days (I think it was 5 degrees C or something) ![]() ![]() I was wearing 3 layers of clothing!

-7 the coldest day? You should come to Switzerland during winter. Snow, ice and temperatures can plunge to as low as -20 celcius.
But climate is certainly an issue when it comes to Disneyland. I sweat like hell, walking the streets of KL for a few minutes. It would be torture spending hours outside in a Theme Park during daytime heat. |

Oh haha......the Alps is no challenge lah ![]() But I tot of going to sunny Florida when this thing hits us The first day is like Malaysia......hot and humid.....then second day suddenly the climate is like below 10 Celcius. Then it got worst from there. Luckily we brought some winter cloting along as we were supposed to visit Vancouver the following week. ![]() On the contrary......Vancouver is 'hotter' than Orlando ![]() I think themeparks are best located in sub-tropical climate. Disney actually dislike temperate climate because when it snows, most of Disney would be closed. That is why most of its themeparks are located in sub-tropical climate places. Malaysia's climate could be a torture however one do not spend the entire day outside mah. Most of the attractions are indoors and air-conditioned. I also do not spend much time outside at Walt Disney World mah cos its freezing outside!

Orlando is not as far south as Miami and I can well imagine that it can experience a cold snap during winter. Actually Miami is about on the same latitude as Hong Kong. And HK can become cool in winter too. |

Main Street in Tokyo Disneyland has large canopy on top due to Tokyo unpredictable weather. Universal Studio Osaka also has similar feature. This feature is not available in their Florida and California theme parks. |
