Ipoh have been stagnant for quite sometimes, at least some changes going on in the skyline. Beside the Tune hotel, there will be reservation centre for Air Asia. I believe that Air Asia and other budget airlines will be using Ipoh Airport soon.

Tune plans a chain of Mideast hotels
Published: 2012/02/16
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...#ixzz1mVs3u5eM

DOHA: Tune Hotels Regional Services Sdn Bhd, via Tune Middle East, plans to build a chain of budget hotels in the Middle East in as early as year end.

Tune Middle East is a 50:50 joint venture between Tune Group and its Qatari partner Mohammed Al Saad.

For a start, Tune Hotels is expected to launch 7,000 rooms of the hotel chain in Saudi Arabia.

"In this business, timing is everything. We are expected to start with a 500-700 rooms budget hotel in Saudi Arabia.

"We will refurbish the building and turn it into a budget hotel. That we hope to be ready in 10 months," said Tune Hotels chief executive officer Mark Lankester here yesterday.

"Over the next five years, we expect to have 7,000 rooms in Saudi Arabia."

It is also looking at building a hotel from scratch in Qatar to take advantage of the country's booming tourism sector.

The country is now preparing to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"We are currently looking at various sites. We hope to launch our services here within the next 18 months.

"Over the longer term, our goal is to have 2,000-3,000 rooms here in Qatar," said Lankester.

He said that the company plans to build several hotels, with each hotel comprising few hundred rooms.

Lankester is not in favour of building one mega-sized hotel with thousands of rooms.

Lankester added that by expanding into the Middle East makes sense for the group.

"In this region, there is a lot of wealthy people but they represent a small part of the population. So, there is a lot of underserved markets in this region.

"We believe that we will be able to serve the needs of these underserved markets," he said.

Tune Hotels is also in talks with parties on the possibility of expanding to East Africa.

one more place left out of the picture is Australia.

i believe they should expand it there. since their flights fly into most of major australia cities.

plus, why no paris? rome or milan or zurich? i bet it could be a good choice. from my experience.
