At least it had a good four years of glory before Durj Dubai knocks it off the record scale. The Empire State and Sears Tower will continue to remain in the record books because they held there record for over 30 years or so. I can’t imagine another building in the future holding that record for any longer.
no, i think the pace of supertall construction is really defined by economy, and money. Just think about it, human have the ability of build mile high skyscrapers at least some 70 years ago. Don't believe it? Just think about a skyscraper with 5 times the width of empire state building, same for the height etc. And i seriously doubt many developers will find a 600m tall building economically efficient. In other words, many of these super tall buildings are ego driven, and are funded by people with a lot of ambition, hopes, and money. I can't think of any cities in the near future that would be as "crazy" as Dubai. I am sure Dubai will hold the tallest title for at least a decade (very conservative estimate). The best case scenario is developers within Dubai compete each other to build WTB, but they would be all in Dubai.

I have my doubts about the latest press release... media in Dubai tends to exaggerate a bit at times.. I cant see how BD jumped from 67 to 70 so quickly... I think we'll have to wait for a high res update from Imre or Altind to count the levels ourselves to make sure

What's so strange about it? 66 floors it was more then 2 weeks ago and they clearly say in the article that the building has reached the 3 days/floor speed.

That would put Burj Dubai on place 61 of the highest buildings according to wikipedia

Just 3 days back in Imre's update, the board says 66 floors. Either the board has not been updated or the article is exagerated

I have tried tocalculate how tall BD will be by the end of the year.I would like to show you my calculation its simple and plausible.

days to the end of the year :116
days divided through days needed for one floor:116/3~39
possible built floors muzltiplicated by height of a floor:39*3.8=148,2m
current height plus the possible built height: 266+148.2=414.2m

So its possible that BD surpass the 400m mark until the end of the year so if my calculation is right BD will be the 7th talles building of the world by the end of the year.
