Thanks for the pictures. I have to see that tower live someday. I can't picture the altitude in my head. The tallest i've ever seen is the Eiffel tower, and even that was great.

After holding the title of world's tallest structure since 1991 (and earlier, from 1963 to 1974, because of the rise and fall of the radio tower in Poland), the KVLY Mast in North Dakota, USA will finally be overtaken!

Now that is tall! (photo by Qubed of Flickr)

The Burj Dubai will be about 200 m taller, or more!

Because the KVLY Mast is literally in the middle of nowhere - there are fields stretching for miles in either direction, photos of it are rare. The shaft is only about 5 metres wide - you can see an access ladder going all the way up and a red painted elevator in the first pic.

one thing i learnt after staying in dubai for 19 years...'Dubai does wat it says .. n it never goes bak on its words' ... so dont underestimate its potentials... even tho it might seem impossible.. but in Dubai nothing is impossible.!!!!

Good perspective Flo i have never thought about it that BD also can be 900m tall in the renderings.

And i am also sure that if they want to build the tallest for a long time they will. And if they want they build it 1km high into the sky. They will do everything to get the record and hold it for a long time. You dont may forget that BD will be aproximately 300m taller then the current highest.Thats a pretty great jump.None building in the world has jumped 300m higher in the sky.And the two words "history rising" are so true this will make history and set a new standart for the word "supertall" what are 300m next to a 800m+ tower?Nothing.

I have a saying that might apply here:

1) Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Any additional height tacked on after constructing the 150th floor of this particular building will add little to no rentable floor space. But, it will make the tower sway more.

Is a great building being created here, or a monument to vanity and folley?

With the amount of money being invested into this tower, I'm sure they know what they are doing. Let's be a little less hasty in judging their motives.

european, the KVLY is 2063 ft, or 629 m tall. The Warsaw radio mast in Poland was 2120 ft, or 646 m tall, until it collapsed in 1991. After the KVLY was built, the FAA imposed a nationwide height limit equal to its height, and today the second tallest structure is a similar American mast only 1 m shorter.
