This is so ****ed... Montreal and Vancouver have all these big expansions, yet Toronto is struggling to operate it's current system, and building nothing. While we have the highest ridership percapita, and we are the fastest growing. Something needs to change.

Threehundred: Are there any plans to extend the Wilshire line further, e.g. to Santa Monica? Hopefully, as it is a very dense corridor.

The LA Future Map only shows what is there and what is under construction, meaning the Gold Line eastside Line and the Expo to Culver City. On the board or invisioned are the Wilshire (soon called Purple Line), Gold line Foothill extension (24 miles to Montclair, might start next year) the downtown Connector, the Green Line Extension, a gap filler from North Hollywood red to Gold in Pasadena, LAX to Union Station Direct and a 405 line from LAX to the valley through Santa Monica and UCLA. LA is looking ahead and its great! Ridership is t record levels on every line except Gold and with the Very pro transit mayor and council we can get a lot doen. Most new development in LA is centered exactly wehre the Red line is or where the LRT's are notably Downtown LA, Wilshire, Hollywood, Pasadena and Long Beach!

You're right in so many ways...

One thing that strikes me when I look at these maps is that most of the cities are located in land or at the junction of rivers...

that makes it so much easier to build the complete on all sides networks spread out, branches, circle lines, etc that make their systems look so much better than ours......

But our system is simple and it works. I love looking at Toronto's grid system, it makes it so easy to imagine the expansion.

3 E-W subway lines (Bloor-Danforth, Eglinton Ave., Sheppard Ave.)
1 N-S Subway line (Yonge St.)
1 NW subway line (University-Spadina)

LRT connecting these lines...everywhere...

Lakeshore (E-W)
Portlands (E-W)
Eglinton E (E-W)
Finch (E-W)
Kingston Rd (NE)
Jane St.(NS)
Don Mills Rd (NS)

And North of Toronto:

Highway 7 (E-W)
Yonge St (N-S)

And West of Toronto:

Hurontario (N-S)
Eglinton (E-W)
Dundas (E-W)

The expansion itself tho...it's on the way...and most likely it will be simple steps, happening slowly...but it will work....

That's Toronto...

Cheers, m

PS. in the meantime, get involved, there is a huge transit users forum being planned in Toronto .... check out the Transit Toronto website for an update...and all those fantasy maps

And right now we don't have a Hoekselijn, Hofpleinlijn, Gouda-Alphen or Zoetermeer Stadslijn? This today map is quite misleading and a whole lot of lines are simply not shown. It looks like there's a huge difference between the now and future map, but there isn't. Only the HSL line, extension of the Gouda-Alphen to Leiden and the small extension of the Zoetermeer line will be truly new.

Noord Zuid was ik even vergeten.
