TB, you are so funny and wonder how on Earth you can come up with such funny comments!?

Oh wow, those pictures are such an eye treat to look at. Amazing how much the city has changed in 3 decades. Talking about density, I guess we have to take a better closer look at these pics to understand that today's version is SO dense that you hardly see the city at all! lol (kidding)

Has anyone ever seen pictures of Church Street from back in the day? I've always wondered what the stretch of Church north of Carlton but south of Wellesley looked like before the party with the bulldozer happened.

Back when you could still see the Royal York from the waterfront.

OMG ... so true ... 5 years ago I was there too and I took many pics that I these days rather not look at given I don't recognize Toronto in them at all.

CBC still shows what I'm guessing as a mid-2000s shot of Toronto for Hockey and live interviews. It looks ridiculous!

I tried, to no avail, to Google up some photos of the old Nag's Head Tavern, just off Yonge Street on King, I believe. I remember the old terra cotta horse's head around the time that I moved here in 1986, but it was all ripped down soon after. What this thread needs is a good dose of intervention by The Charioteer!

Thanks Tony, and welcome to the group. Double Bump. Anyone have any pics of the old Nag's Head? I do wonder what happened to the old terracotta horse's head from the outside.

One of my great regrets that I never stopped to go inside.

In 1890 Spadina had underground washrooms, who knew?

1890 A Muskoka Cottage

1890 the Steamship Micassa

1912, the Trillium on the far right still in service today and the oldest paddle boat on the Great Lakes.

Every gay man in Toronto at the time! hehe.....

Great pics!! more!! more!!! more!!

Trillium still does the Island run, correct? We are so lucky to have the old ferries. Crossing to the Islands is always an Occasion and not just a crossing. You always have a
real sense of arrival standing at the helm of those old boats! If we were any other city than mega-modest TO we would heavily advertise those century old iconic ferries
as part of our city brand.

We don't.

I think the Trillium only runs during peak times over the weekends, the rest of the boating season it's chartered out. When I worked at Nelvana we used it for an afternoon party. It actually took us out from the harbour and back.

According to an eyeweeklyy report I read in 2002 (or it was 2005?) those washrooms were a common "gay action" scene back in those times

That was pretty much true for every public washroom like that in the world. There were few other places gay men could meet up. Cruising these washrooms was known as
"cottaging".
